Trades
1.
NYI
  1. Benn, Jamie
Additional Details:
The risk: Benn is 30 and still has 5 years left at a $9.5M cap hit. He's also having a down season (19-20-39 in 68gp) mostly on a line with Seguin. However, Benn still may be worth taking a risk that a change of scenery gets him going again.

I'm speculating, but perhaps a shake up is needed in Dallas. Last year, Stars GM Jim Nill got into a rift with Benn/Seguin after calling their play "fucking horseshit" and them not being good enough.
DAL
  1. Bailey, Josh
  2. Koivula, Otto
  3. Leddy, Nick ($500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Dallas gets their missing LD piece behind Lindell and Heiskanen. Bailey immediately plugs Dallas' hole in the top-6. Sweetener prospect in Koivula who could plug into a bottom-6 role next season with room to grow.

Cap hits are equal. Dallas would get out of $5M in 2 years should they not retain Leddy after his contract expires.
2.
NYI
  1. Parise, Zach ($3,769,230 retained)
Additional Details:
Parise and Lou and familiar with each other. Parise has more left in the tank (and on his contract) than Ladd.
MIN
  1. Aho, Sebastian [RFA Rights]
  2. Bellows, Kieffer
  3. Ladd, Andrew
Additional Details:
MIN adding $2.6M on their cap to get Bellows and Aho. Need to give to get.

After 3 years, they will actually start to save money because Ladd's contract is up. If Parise reached a point where he wants to "retire" there is an understanding he will be put on NYI's LTIR to avoid MIN being hit with recapture. Or, Parise will be traded back to MIN for future considerations.

Build by getting older, slower and more expensive?

This would be a bottom 5 team.

Is a player on pace for 72 points this season and had 62 points last season really worth $10.5M for 8 years?

Parise was a necessity. Got out from Ladd easier than just for picks. Wanted to keep that 2021 1st in case of Boychuk/expansion. And I do think Benn is plenty effective just ran his course in Dallas. Bottom-5 is a bit harsh lol

He will prob get in the 7 range on a bridge. You're buying plenty of UFA years. Worth it to me.

Probably need to fire Trotz.
Barzal is not gonna excel with Islanders if Trotz is coaching, like Barzal wont hit the next level

That's an absurd statement. Trotz is the best coach the Islanders have had since Al Arbour.

Not disagreeing about that.
Barzal just seems like not his style guy.

You're better off with Bailey and Leddy then Benn.

Barzal is becoming a more complete player under trotz. I'd rather him be a 75-80 pt center who plays well defensively than a 90-100 pt one dimensional center.

Low 70s IMO, not 80s.

barzal will finish with between 72-75 pts this season. He also doesn't have a "sniper" on his wing. Once he gets that type of player, that's good for 5-10 more points. There have been many times this season where barzal makes an insane pass and lee/eberle don't bury them. Wahlstrom should make the team out of camp next season, that'll help barzal.
