CHI should be able to get a pretty decent return for Maatta. If nothing else next TDL. No reason to buy him out.

Also, with the cap going up to 86... he is good defensive depth for our team that has a few injury prone defensemen. If nothing else he is an easy choice for the expansion draft. Point being we should absolutely not buy him out.

Not to mention Beaudin may not be ready or Boqvist might regress or Mitchell may not be ready. We’re banking on these young guys but they may still need a little more seasoning. Til here locked NHL caliber players, we should keep Maatta.

I'm all for trading him if a suitable offer comes along though. My guess is that the cap is not going up as high as everyone expects, probably 83 and a half AT MAX.

The buyout is so cheap that its worth it if you cant move him for a mid round pick

What do you gain from buying him out though? Unless that cap space is needed for something else, there is no gain here from buying him out. He is an depth NHL dman at the very least.
