Rebuild route - NJD WPG COL CGY CHI

Created by: MTLaveragefan
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 11, 2020
Published: Mar. 11, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
all picks are lottery protected.

Tell me what you think in the comments:

these are the basis for trades - counter-offers are appreciated.

I know I am going to receive a ton of hate from Colorado fans (@Coga16), but be opened to the propositions

My appreciation of the trades

1- WPG trade

in favor of WPG who gain a center for their 2nd line, and a great RHD, MTL gets a great LHD prospect and a first round pick.

- I would add a prospect from WPG side, but I do not know them well enough.

2- COL trade

I see it as a fair trade as COL get to great top 6 players, they will be an offensive threat. Great trade for a Cup run.
Tatar is a rental, but he is a full year rental, to which I've retained almost half his salary. Drouin will do great with Mack.

- Kaut and Timmins are good assets for MTL's rebuild.

3- NJD trade

MTL brings back Subban and 2 first round pick... NJD fans a sharpening sticks as we speak....
but they do get a great prospect in Caufield and a great Goaltender in Price.

- Price is worth a least a first round pick, and his contract his offset by MTL taking Subban's contract.
- Caufield's value is high for NJD as he has great chemistry with their young stud C they just drafted last year.

4- CGY and CHI trades

those are trades to make use of our Cap space... I really don't care much about them.

CONCLUSION: MTL is banking a ton of pick while keeping a competitive team for the fans to enjoy, MTL cannot really go through a full rebuild because habs fan are not very understanding and have been spoiled for so many years...

And to keep fans happy during the rebuild, I've brought back a fan favourite.

Calgary wouldn't trade looch, he is their whole team. He skates slow because his back hurts from carrying the team

COL don't want to trade Timmins since he's one of the 3 RD at the Avs who can actually play in the NHL. They're also not really willing to trade their 2020 1st haha

Edit: also, all those teams outside the playoff spots won't trade their 1sts. Especially the rebuilding Devils haha

We are in a rebuild. Makes absolutely ZERO sense to make this trade. Why would we want to take on an albatross of a contract for a goaltender and give away two first round picks?

well between an unknown prospect ARI and Caulfield, it is not half bad - and by taking Subban off your book and for 500 000$ more for 3 years you get a great Goaltender to support your team. I think that is worth more than 2 first round pick.

- especially as you can clearly see that a first pick in the draft doesn't equate to a better team. Your team would be significaly better with Price.

dude COL will trade in the last 5 picks in the first round... we are giving them the 38th pick.

you can sign any other RHD for now - but its harder to acquire two 55pts guys (Drouin is gonna hit more when he plays with MACK)

well any players that consistently puts up 50pts is a top 6 player. (he got hurt this year for most of the season- but was almost 1ppg at the start of the year)

edit:

may I add that he has done so as a center and as a winger on a ****ty team, with no center...and no sniper to pass to.

Not a big fan, it’s not bc there isn’t talent there, but it’s all about cost certainty with kaut and Timmins is a projected piece next year

Tatar is only 1 year and won’t be re upped bc he’s too costly and too old on his for a new contract and I don’t
Think the avs have any interest in drouin. His game does not fit under the avs with bednar

Avs are better keeping those guys and signing a ufa winger. Probably cheaper too

We are no longer in an era in which a team could just trick rebuilding/expansion team in trading their 1st round pick. OTT's 2019 1st rd pick and Sharks' 2020 1st rd pick are just an outliers just like the one from the Kessel for picks turned Seguin. No one expected the Sharks and Sens to be that horrible when they made those trades.

Chevy would be crazy to say no to this.

Other than 2nd line Hudon this doesn't look much worse then the current Habs team.. Lol

We are in a complete rebuild. It makes no sense whatsoever to take on a mammoth contract of a 33 year old goaltender AND give away two high first round picks. We will not be competitive in the next year or two. We are rebuilding. I'm sorry but that trade would make zero sense for the Devils.

Its out there, they do like Tatar, but its more in the Jost, Zadorov, or Graves type of pieces. Really dont see a scenario they move a Kaut, Timmins unless they are really getting a young forward that they love that is cost controlled. And from what has been said by Avs coverage guys, they dont feel that way about Drouin
