Dude, the Bruins just dumped Backes, who has nowhere near the on-ice value of Steen and twice as much salary to eat in the Kase trade. The B's basically sent a 1st for Kase, which means they dumped Backes for the cost of a C+ prospect in Axel Andersson. And that was at the trade deadline. Your concept of what a cap dump is and what that costs is well off. Yes, Steen is overpaid, but not by as much as you wish to claim, and Allen is not overpaid, though it might seem like it to you because your faltering starter makes a mint. But guess what, that's not our problem.

The on ice value ahaha lets talk about that. How a second goalie and a fourth line utility players who grabs a 1/10 of the salary cap got value. Man stop embarrassing yourself. The ducks would never got a prospect and a first for kase who is a fringe third line players. The bruins had to paid big time to get rid of him. Andersson is a good prospect actually. A you g right handed defenseman who just turn 20 and that got real good speed and great defensive awareness. Could turn into a good bottom pairing shutdown defenseman.
You have to be stupid to think that steen would interest any team. The only way he get traded if it st louis include a prospect or a high pick in that deal. Even for a team that have to reach the cap floor, there will be better option. As for Allen he is a very good second goalie but the market this summer is not favorable at all. Is the blues want to get rids of is salary they probably have to retained some of or take less in return. Halak, khudobin, elliot, talbot, greiss, aaron dell, jimmy howard are among the best 2nd goalies and all into free agency. Crawford, Markstrom, lehner, holtby are also ufa. The market for allen is almost none existent. Why a team would trade for allen when there plenty of goalie available and that will be cheaper and as good as he is. Again you don’t seem to understand the fact that both of these players have no value right now.

https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/s/steenal01.html
https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/m/marlepa01.html

Steen 17 in 55 --> 0.31ppg
Marleau 37 in 82 --> 0.45 ppg

Let's agree that Marleau was a better point producer than Steen but he was on a 35+ contract so the buyout was less friendly. You have to value what's worst for you : 2 years of lower buy out cap hit or 1 years of higher buy out cap hit, that's completely up to the team who's doing it. BUT, you can't argue that they are not in the same "situation" of being a dump by the team who's trading them a.k.a STL here. This move gives you the space to sign Pietrangelo for 10,1 millions if my math are correct. Wouldn't agree that STL with Piet/Lindgren is better then STL with Steen/Allen? I'm not saying this trade is perfect. I like the idea as a habs fan because we can absord the 10 millions but i see no use in Steen nor Allen. A late first rounder to resign Piet, and you are whinning? Are you really a fan?

@GMs good job overall

you're on something pretty psychedelic if you think anyone was paying a 1st for Kase

Tim and Sid covered this subject hard and they couldnt even get a 3rd round pick in a TDL last year for him
in what world does he pull off a 1st?

i mean crap Lehkonen's worth a 1st then to obviously and Barbashev to while were at it .
if you're gonna make up a lie , make up a good one

I think we could get Heinola out of Winnipeg for Domi tbh, but the deal is okay, not ideal tho. I love that STL deal, but I don’t think STL accepts tbh. Nice AGM tho.

I dont like Heinola personally... Production isnt there in the Liiga this year and he doesnt seems to have any improvement in his game. Keep Domi, play him on KKs wing and watch

Yeah I'd do Heinola and the 1st for Domi but not Vesalainen and/or Niku too though.

He had 5 points in 8 NHL games this season, that's not bad for an 18 year old playing in North America for the first time.

Not sure he could have keep the pace though... The sample is way too small to say hes as great as a 50pts dmen.

Don't see why he should be untouchable, the hole at 2C is a big one and is harder to fill then almost any other position, if Heinola could be used to permanently fill that spot then he should be traded.

So we create a hole on LD to fill the 2C... no

Heinola is not even playing yet so how is trading him creating a hole? lol

WAY harder to acquire a 2C then a dman, if trading Heinola gets one that's a long term solution then so be it, get it done!

exactly, Heinola isn't a top4 dman right now, he's not even playing in the NHL, Domi is a 2C, exemple, Calgary trade Hanifin vs Domi straight up, now Calgary have a hole on the left side because they traded away a top4 LHD. Heinola is still a prospect, but a good one
