Matthew Barzal offer sheet 84 million salary cap Domi to Minny

Created by: nilees24
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 6, 2020
Published: Mar. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Islanders may have major cap troubles going into the off-season with priority on resigning Barzal, Toews and Pulock (approx 12.5 mil cap space avail). Pulock unlikely to receive a bridge deal; with Toews very much likely.

Habs need a 1st line Centre, a Top-4 D-man and a veteran back-up goalie. No disrespect to Domi, but he's no 1st line Centre, however, his trade value is very high. The UFA Centremen market is bone dry this off-season. Tons of cap space, MB on an offer sheet blitz this year (similar to Aho and B. Point last year). Barzal & Dubois on his radar as offer sheet candidates with intent to overpay. A 7 yr / 84 mill offer sheet should do the trick for Barzal (possibly even 7 yr / 87.5 mill on the max. end). This ACGM team is a demonstration that the Habs have plenty of cap space to entertain acquiring Barzal or Dubois through offer sheet. Very doubtful NYI can/would match ..... enjoy the compensation picks NYI fans.

Then the next season there no money to extend petry, gallagher, Kotkaniemi, danault, armia, lehkonen peohling fleury. There absolutely no chance that bergevin offer sheet barzal for 4 first round pick. I mean he is good but he isn’t a real number one center.

I'm not entirely sure they would. That is a ton of money. Frankly I don't want the Habs to even OS anyone that much.

"Isles have cap troubles!"

-Guy who sets himself up to be decent for 1 season (Not better than Boston or Tampa, and probably still not better than Toronto...wildcard or bussssst!) , and then has no room to sign Tatar, Gally, Petry, Fleury, Brodin, Danault, etc. the following offseason.

I disagree amigo. Next offseason it would be Gallagher (7 yr / 49 mil), Danualt (7 year / 42 mil), Brodin (5 yr / 27.5 mil), Weal (3 yr / 6 mill). Crawford is a one yr commitment only, Primeau is there future backup. Tatar, Petry, Armia, Boyle, sadly are UFA Departures. Sign all RFA to fair bridge deals. Contracts/cap space would work out to approx. 86 mil for 2021/22.

Anything under 13 mill isles match. Isles would trade pulock before they let barzal go.

Yeah Barzal's a total stud. First line center and someone who can QB a Power Play. Worth every penny.

I would consider 13 mill / yr for him but Habs need help in other places so I think 12.5 mill / yr is the very max I would consider.

You would consider it but no chance Bergeron does.

Projected somewhere between 84 - 88 mil. With this CVD-19 bullocks though, revenue sharing will drop. I'd expect a salary cap slightly under 84 for next year,
