You would have to offer sheet. Why offer 5 years instead of 7? This contract actually makes more sense if you offersheet because its the total dollar amount of the contract divided by 5 years (at most)- which might drop the overall compensation, i dont remember where the cutoffs are. But if you are trading for him outright, might as well offer him the 7 years.

Columbus accepts, if Atkinson waives anyways. Also we really have no need for a RHD... or D of any kind. We’d be happy to have Mittelstadt coming back though.

I've been thinking, a Barzal-Eichel trade could be very interesting. We could recreate LaFontaine-Turgeon.

First, that's a comically bad offer for Barzal.

Secondly, the Islanders are not in cap trouble:

Leddy and Hickey can be traded. Komarov bought out. Revisit Ladd for Parise (yes cap is coming back but NYI wouldn't consider this unless they were saving money). Per Arthur Staple expect a 2x2 range bridge for Toews. It's so easy to make this work and you have multiple avenues of doing it. Not to mention who knows how much the cap is going up by. Isles not nearly in as much trouble as you think

He's 21 years old...not every player is Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel.

Nobody is taking Okposo without a first round pick attached to it.

And these free agent signings are awful, Thompson, Noesen, Soucy, Hammond, Khudobin, and Simmonds? Barf.

Hammond is not needed as Luukkonen and Johansson will be in Rochester. Khudobin isn't any better than Hutton. The rest are AHL level players, except Simmonds.
