Matthews' home is AZ otherwise he wouldn't have bought a big house and spend time away from the team there.

He might like the challenge of taking his childhood team and perpetually mediocre AZ Yotes to the next level and into the playoffs. However, why would Toronto ever trade him?

I think they might trade him, but not now. Going into the last year of his contract if they start discussing extensions and the number is too big for toronto, but arizona has oodles of cap room as they sometimes do, they might be able to work out a deal.

First off plenty of Russians have gone back and isn't that exactly what Tavares did? Strung the Islanders along so he could just head home? Matthews is going to do the same thing, he's signed till he's a UFA then he will test the market. I'm sure dubas wanted to lock him up 8 years but now Matthews is a UFA in his prime.

tavares and matthews in completely different situations, call the leafs bad all you want but the islanders teams that tavares played for were awful compared to these teams, no fans on the island, besides loyalty what reason did tavares have to stay ? he didnt go home just go to home. you are acting like it is a common occurence for players to go home right when they become a ufa, people will find anything to bash the leafs

LMAO, as bruins fan what would you consider a fair offer? only reasoning people give is "he wants to go home" whe he has never mentioned anything like that ever, nor has he showed anything where he dislikes playing in toronto, he is the face of the biggest hocckey market in the world, why would he leave that, esspecially when the leafs are better than az

Case by case basis. Russian pro salaries don't match NHL so for stars that's a financial decision, however mediocre players they can sometimes make more or close to in Russia so they do in fact stay home.

With Matthews, he actually is in AZ when he doesn't have to be with the team whereas a lot of players like (Kane, Toews) stay in Chicago in the offseason and that is now their home. Matthews though is different.

whats funny? cause the leafs are better than az, and toronto is one of the biggest if not the biggest hockey markets in the world, if you wanna nit pick that is said best than so be it, but its toronto or montreal and if you disagree well then i cant help you but its true, thats not saying theyre the best in anyway, but they are the one of the biggest markets and its not close

I outlined a scenario where in three years, a trade could be possible. I ventured no opinion that it would happen. You came back with absolutes, with the tone of someone that had a crystal ball that could see into the future. Might want to check the transcript bud.

Settle down guy, your emotions are driving your aggressive responses here; it's just a hockey forum discussion not life and death. It's not like you play for Toronto or Matthews gives two craps about you.

That said, some players go home during extended breaks yes but if you've noticed with Matthews, he's in AZ every chance he can get.

So, while Toronto probably won't trade him, you can bet in 4 years as a free agent, Matthews will be talking extensively to the Yotes and willing to be he'd take a hometown discount there.

mostly every player doesnt stay where they play in the summer, whether they go home, or where they train, they dont stay there, youre logic is ignorant.

once again pull a statement out of your arse when the only reasoning anybody can give is that "he wants to go home" regardless of how that team is, he just wants to leave the leafs. so its kinda frustrating when none of anyones logic is truly intelligent in any way whatsoever

How dare you people saying The Desert Queen wont stay Leaf for lifetime......hes semi-god, and while he reportedly demanded 8 x 13M on top of 63 and 69 Seasons, this years 80 nad so for three years ( i guess first 100 Point season will be in ARI despite demanded money of 120 Pointer per Season ) will for sure entitle him to demand 6 x 20M in his UFA Season and TML will be paying for sure......

& Toews goes home to Winnipeg, Kane to Buffalo, Stamkos to Toronto... and so on.

Not every player has to play close to home. Some like the situation their in and have good friends on the team. Matthews is very close friends with Marner and Andersen. Both might not be on the team then, but that factors in. Also, if it's money Matthews wants then no one would outbid Toronto. You can argue what the cap hit should be, but Toronto is the team to give Matthews the most in signing bonuses and the only team that would be able to give him the extra year.

As for your pathetic offer, it's just that. Terrible. Keller is overpaid and likely won't ever be more than a 65 point player who's carried by his linemmates. And Chychrun is a solid young d-man but it would take much more than that for a player like Matthews. The 2 picks don't carry as much value when Toronto is trying to win now and those players would be at least 2-3 years away from their draft years.

Worry about your own terrible team and go troll some other team kid. LOL

you just said you think they will trade him, that problem you brought up is the problem for every pending ufa in the last year of their contract, seems like youre saying matthews is the only person that itll happen to, and i dont think i can see in to the future but like i said in previous posts the only logic people have is that we wants to go to arizona for no other reason than its his home regardless of the team

There's a reason he signed a 5 year deal and not 8 with Toronto. Arizona just has to wait until he's a free agent.
