There's a reason he signed a 5 year deal and not 8 with Toronto. Arizona just has to wait until he's a free agent.

Dont tear those blindfolds off the homers eyes, i mean......

Actually they will tell you he signed 5 x 11,634 to do TML a favour cause they couldnt afford his justified 8 x 13M on top of 63 + 69

I'm not a Coyotes fan bud. Explain to me why he signed a 5 year deal then.

tavares and matthews in completely different situations, call the leafs bad all you want but the islanders teams that tavares played for were awful compared to these teams, no fans on the island, besides loyalty what reason did tavares have to stay ? he didnt go home just go to home. you are acting like it is a common occurence for players to go home right when they become a ufa, people will find anything to bash the leafs

Lol get a grip. Tavares & Barzal would be a solid 1-2 punch so theres the players that drive the offense. They have good young d men coming and had picked up lehner, last year their goalie tandem was the best in the league. But who would want to play there. ToRoNtO iS tHe BeSt

i never said toronto was the best, look at the islanders now ! they had given him no reason to stay, plus they had all their bs with 2 arenas, toronto was and is a better situation for him, barzal and him would be a solid 1-2 punch, but him and matthews is an even better one

Bingo, at least the non homers get it...to suggest it is out of the question that Toronto trades him before becoming a UFA is just ignorance. To also suggest Matthews doesn't want to be in Arizona given his behavior away from the team

I think they might trade him, but not now. Going into the last year of his contract if they start discussing extensions and the number is too big for toronto, but arizona has oodles of cap room as they sometimes do, they might be able to work out a deal.

Can’t see them having the physical dollars.

They spent 73 million dollars this year. So, there’s that.

you just said you think they will trade him, that problem you brought up is the problem for every pending ufa in the last year of their contract, seems like youre saying matthews is the only person that itll happen to, and i dont think i can see in to the future but like i said in previous posts the only logic people have is that we wants to go to arizona for no other reason than its his home regardless of the team

I did not says i think they will trade him. I skipped the rest.

He wanted an 8 year deal but it was in the 13.2m range. Didn’t work for Toronto’s cap situation. Doubt the Yotes will have the cash for Matthews. He could always take less or a heavy salary structured deal to make it work though.

As I said above Matthews wanted an 8 year deal. The aav didn’t work for Toronto. Whether he stays or leaves will probably have more to do with business and much less to do with playing for the Yotes.

If Matthews wants to take less with a heavy salary structured contract than yes it could work. 73m is where they spend to normally. As cap rises that number rises much more slowly as revenue share comes in.

it is very very very unlikely which is the closest thing youll get to out of the question .what behavior away from the team ? you have literally nothing besides the fact hes from there and has a house there, so stupid

looks like your a chi town fan, if someone told you kane was going back to buffalo after his first deal for no reason other than hes from buffalo, you would say theres no way as well. kane also signed for 5 years his 2nd deal, why didnt he sign for more?

As revenue goes up, so will their spending. The way it’s gone forever.

Their revenue is stagnant, revenue share helps them increase. They have spent 72-73m for the past 2 seasons. They will never spend to the cap. Unless they start pulling in fans. Doesn’t happen when Matthews visits once a year.

... and this year he was almost on pace for 63 goals alone. So again, smart people realize that you don't pay players for what they've done, you pay them for what they'll do.

Idk, explain to me why Toews and Kane signed 5 year deals outta their ELC's. Musta been to move home after right? You're only saying that because it's Toronto, it has no fact behind it.

Because he goes home where his family and friends live? Didn't know that was a sign for everyone. Guess McDavid and Stamkos are signing in Toronto eventually because they see their family there and even train there in the off-season. Matthews even said in an interview that he likes going home to OCCASIONALLY get away and not be noticed. If he signed back they're, he lose that.

Because Buffalo sucked and Kane loved Chicago which is why he sold his house years ago in Buffalo and said he is done with Buffalo. Matthews did the opposite and bought a big house in Arizona and goes there every chance he gets.

Don't disagree but his home in Arizona will have somewhat of an influence, not overcoming business/money entirely but will come into play

... guess your reading skills are worse. I said he was on pace for CLOSE TO 63 goals.. 55 is pretty close to 63. Try again.

Because a 15% difference really isn't substantial huh? Just like if Matthews racks up 100 points it's the same as anyone racking up 85 points right? Yeah pal...try again with your trolling
