Salary Cap Mode: Basic

Description

Caps don't have to do anything special for the expansion. They're set to continue being a great team for awhile. I'll explore later what happens if they want to get interesting like shedding Oshie.

7F: Ovi, Backy, Kuzey, Vrana, Wilson, Oshie, Eller

3D: Carlson, Orlov, Siegenthaler

1G: Samsonov

Exposed: Panik, Hagelin, Kempny, Jensen. There are others but imagine these are the main guys that Seattle will look at. I doubt all 4 are here for the expansion. If Capitals really wanted to they could wait to sign Ovechkin and use his spot for Panik or Hagelin. Either way I'd bet Kempny is taken, which is fine because Caps have a lot of great LHD.

Capitals will have slew of cap space if they wanted to go out and grab someone. And could have even more if they let Oshie get taken.

I wonder if exposing Oshie will be on the table. He will be 34 1/2, with 4 years left at $5.75M. Old and expensive is probably not the direction that they will go.

Yeah it will be interesting. He's loved by his team, which is why I can see him staying. But getting out of that contract will be nice and SEA will scoop up a native son to be their captain I'd imagine.
