Koivu would be a great 3rd or 4th C in NYR, but I think that if he doesn't come back to MIN, he'll just retire...

Plus don't break up the Lindgren-Fox pairing

Moreover, both Lundkvist and Miller shouldn't play in the NHL as soon as 20-21.

To start the season, the D-core should look like this:

If Miller starts:

Lidngren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Staal-DeAngelo

If Lundkvist starts:

Lindgren-Fox
DeAngelo-Trouba
Staal-Lundkvist

Smith alone might return a 4th round pick since his cap hit will outweigh actual salary paid (trade after bonus paid July 1)

As far as Lias- his situation makes it very difficult to put a value on him right now...but anything less than straight up for a 2nd- and the Rangers are better off sitting on him...would be very embarrassing to see him traded for minimal value to see him catch on somewhere else and become an invaluable bottom 6 grinder.

200 better options than Smith and his still inflated salary and cap even after bonus, dreamland thinking. Let alone for a 4th. Maybe With a 2nd, which is what Lias is. Therefore would rather trade Lias than a 2nd. Lias becoming an invaluable grinder is also dreamy

If they gotta add assets to move Smith- then they are better off riding his contract out- wouldn’t kill them for him to be 6D or 7D....just no more at wing!!

Lias is very tricky- might be wishful thinking for him to become useful- but unless they are trading for a pick they like on their draft board or he’s part of a package for a pick or player they really want- I wouldn’t move him- especially as a throw in to move Smith....if they can’t get value for him- then why not give him a real chance at 4C- with real minutes and NHL line mates?
