Likely Scenario Cap does not increase much

Created by: ChiHawk
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 16, 2020
Published: Mar. 16, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The cap will not increase more then $3M given the economic impact of Covid-19 including loss of revenue due to games, the Canadian dollar has crashed, and oil prices tanking. Economic uncertainty does not bode well to raise the cap much.

Note on Kubalik signing, I think the Hawks will ink him for $3M to $3.5M for 1 or 2 years with bonuses if he reaches 30 goals for example.

Given the injury history on defense, I would not be shocked to see the hawks carry 8 defensemen, as shown here. Also think Carlsson has looked good enough to play for Maatta and Beaudin looked really solid his first game. I believe, like Boqvist, Beaudin's game will better translate to the NHL vs the AHL. Mitchell could go down to the AHL for a portion of the year depending on the health of Seabs and De Haan. What is certain is Maatta needs to be moved...way too many bottom 3 defensive guys to keep him.

The one player who might be moved for top 6 winger help is Murphy. If Mitchell is all that, and seabs and De Haan are good to go, I could see Murphy being moved as he has a fair amount of value. Feasible but unlikely.

If given the chance, the Hawks should draft Holtz...he seems like a good fit for sure but doubt he falls to where the Hawks pick at 9th, 10th or 11th, so if not Holtz then target Lundell.

Ottawa isn't taking your cap dump unless you offer a hell of a lot better of a sweetener than a 7th..

Read the description first and foremost. Secondly, if you knew what you're talking about, you wouldn't think Maatta is a pure cap dump

This is probably one of the most likely outcomes I have seen on here though knowing Stan he will try "move the needle" through trades or UFA.

I agree that Smith is either bought out or moved and your spot on that Maatta for the money needs to be moved.

This is all on the proviso we have a healthy Shaw, De Haan and Seabrook. I can't see all 3 staying healthy so I wouldn't be opposed to moving Shaw or De Haan due to these facts.

Thank you. The issue with trying to move to Shaw or De Haan is their values will be all time low plus would like require us to retain. As much as I love Shaw, I wouldn't mind seeing him retire.

I totally agree, I wouldn't have issue with any of the three retiring though don't see Seabs walking from over $6m a year.
