I really doubt that a 4th liner, B prospect, likely very late 1st and late 2nd is enough for a bonafide, 22 year old top 6 C. It's more than likely that at least half the teams in the league would beat that offer.

To get him with an offer-sheet would probably cost 4 first round picks; that's likely the type of value NYI are looking for in a trade.

No one will want to hear this, but the Sharks are fine at center with couture and hertl for the next couple years. What they still need are two scoring wingers who can slot on the 2nd and 3rd line and a solid 3C who can potentially move up and play 2C. Gambrell really elevated his game this season. It could actually be him.

I agree, but I also think getting another center wouldnt hurt. Hertl can play winger just as good if not better so moving him back doesnt hurt at all

I would think that Hertl, Chmelevski and two firsts would be the Islanders' ask for Barzal. @LumberJacques is on the money here.

The issue is availability in FA right now.

1. this offer clearly isnt enough going to the islanders.
2. NO ONE will ever offer 4 firsts for Barzal
3. Sharks would never even consider sending Hertl AND 2 1sts for Barzal, that's waaaaay too much.

Dude get real!!! Hertl alone is overpaying especially with him on a team friendly deal! He is a non option but in your defense I do feel the offer is low. I’d suggest the 1st and 2nd Chmelevski And Labanc plus another prospect even that still might not do it but more than that and we should balk we have too many needs

Hertl has three full years of 74, 46 and 46 points plus this year, which annualizes out to about 54 points. Barzal has two full years of 85 and 62 points and this year annualizes out to roughly 74 points. To suggest that Hertl for Barzal is an overpay is hilarious homerism.

But you are absolutely correct in asserting that acquiring any single player in exchange for multiple assets is a losing proposition for San Jose because the Sharks have multiple needs. That is true of many teams in the draft lotteries -- they are in the bottom half of the league due to numerous flaws, not just one. Take my Ducks, who you should know from proximity: not only is the right side of the defense horrible, but they are also a terrible offensive team, too. Even Alexis LaFreniere wouldn't solve that problem -- although he'd be a good start.
