@Kotkaniemi15 gave me an idea* that I think solves all of the problems associated with extending the season.

(* He said something, and I had the idea.)

The major difficulty in extending the season and playoffs into June and even July is that summer weather makes maintaining good ice extremely difficult and the refrigeration and anti-humidity efforts required to do so makes it unpleasant to come indoors from ninety-degree heat into a sufficiently air-conditioned arena. So,

Play out the full regular-season schedule. Then, conduct a round-robin between the 7 Canadian teams (four games against each other team).

This would take only two months from resumption of the regular season to conclusion of the playoffs.

As consolation prizes, give every employee of all of the American teams (including concession stand workers, parking lot directors, ticket takers, ushers, etc.) Canadian health care for a year.
