Nobody wants Gourds contract. If the cap is going down I don't see a team trading a lot for Johnson

But who are these teams? Why do they take them? Why do Gourde and Johnson waive? I think Tampa will have some decisions to make.

Curious to know what Tampa fans think - What is your limit for Serg/Cirelli on an offersheet.? Rangers fan here and do not see them offersheeting TB but lets say someone offered Cirelli a 5X7.5 deal and i do not think he is worth that much but would Tampa go that high or take the picks?

Curious to know what Tampa's ceiling is for those two from a fans opinion.

I'm saying even a low O/S...at 5.5M....TBL can't afford them

Totally...This was my point here...I wonder if they will try and trade Kucherov and Gourde....This will solve it for the time being...

Ya TBL is going to have to get creative, maybe they will get ahead of the O/S and trade them for assets rather than picks if a team is willing too.

Thats my post from earlier...I would easily trade for Cirelli....TBL may not get 100% of what he is worth but still get a decent return...

Yeah, that's my bad, I didn't even really stop to look at the team. I thought you were just trying to say that Tampa is perfectly fine because they can just trade Gourde and Johnson, which obviously isn't the case.

Cirelli and Serg aren't going to take an offer sheet from a weaker contender for a million or so more than what Tampa will offer. Killorn, Paquette and Coburn are very likely moved and then if necessary, Cernak. Obv if either Gourde or TJ waive then they get moved 1st over Killorn, but JBB knows the long term value of Cirelli and Serg to the team and won't be losing them. Neither player has also even provided the slightest hint that they want out of Tampa and would even sign an offer sheet, so it seems very slim that's happening. I still believe the season finishes with at least playoffs and the cap will still be around 84, certainly won't be dropping like I've seen some on here believe.

Johnson is easier. A NTC doesn't mean he can't go thru waivers. Work out a trade, Sabres for example, and ask Johnson if he'll waive for Buffalo or be put in waivers and be claimed by Detroit or Ottawa. I think he'd take Buffalo.

Gourde is a different story.

You don't see that too often though, teams sending down guys who are obviously good enough to play. Comes off kind of classless and sends a bad message to potential UFA signings. (Though I'm sure Tampa is more concerned about RFA's atm)

It seems to me that Tampa has basically three paths:

1. Trade two of Gourde, Johnson and Palat, as you have done here. (Note that it still doesn't really solve the problem.)

2. Not sign Sergachev or Cirelli and trade one of them instead. (The other would have to take a lot less money due to the $10 million owed the two guys you traded here.)

3. Trade Brayden Point, who is the only guy with a big cap hit without a No-Trade clause (other than Vasilevskiy).

Alternative #1 doesn't seem a realistic possibility to me because all of them have NTC's.

Alternative #3 seems idiotic to me unless St Louis is willing to exchange Binnington for Vasilevskiy (ha, ha). And that still doesn't help TB much because they still have 5 roster slots to fill.

That ten million dollars owed Gourde and Johnson is a real problem. Tampa's cap situation is going to be my prime area of interest this summer. Even one unexpected compliance cap buyout isn't going to alleviate the problem that much.
