If same cap and no trade this summer

Created by: ColonelX
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 18, 2020
Published: Mar. 19, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
As the title state, this ACGM is if the cap stay the same next season and no trades are made -and no Barzal offersheet-. The final contract count is 46 so it'll leave us space for signing more rookies next season (Norlinder, Caufield, and LeGuerrier are the ones that comes to my mind).

Signatures;
-Shattenkirk is signed 2 years, $6 millions: He comes in and stabilize our third pairing right away. In the event of a trade or injury he'll be able to take more minutes and stabilize a depleted bottom 4, solid addition to the backend.
-Wade Allison signs a 3 years, $2.7 millions contract: For those following my ACGM you'll know it isn't the first time I'm listing him. I like what he does but especially how he does it, already possess an NHL size and has now played 4 years against mans. He'll be a good addition to a third line looking to get size in front of the net and can be utilized on the second PP unit in Gallagher's office.
-Ilya Kovalchuk awarded a one year, $2.5 millions deal: To be fair I don't think he'll be as ''thunder and lightning'' through an 82 game schedule BUT if he accepts to sign a team friendly deal I wouldn't see why we'd refuse his help. A third line role with less responsibilities in a city that loves him, what else could he ask for?
-Nate Thompson comes back in Montreal on a one year, $1 million deal: I'm bringing back uncle Nate as depth. I don't want him to play 82 games on the fourth line (Could be inserted in case of injuries or when playing against more physical teams) but I want him to stay around and help all these young guys. He'll continue what he started with Zook and Evans.
-Connor Mackey signs a two year, $1.85 millions (Plus performance bonuses of $625 000): Mackey will be an highly touted NCAA free agent this summer, Montreal can easily give him a nice pitch and performance bonuses to make him sign in town. He'll start in Laval as a top pairing LD just to get up to speed with the pro level -and tweak his game- but it won't take long to see him with the big team. Powerplay quaterback, hockey IQ and skating this kid has is all and even if Montreal has bolstered his LD prospect pool recently I can't say no to a guy like him.

Laval depth chart:
Hudon - Kotkaniemi - Ylönen
Dauphin - Poehling - Belzile
Teasdale - Hillis - Alain
Pezetta - Vejdemo - Blandisi

Mackey - Fleury
Ouellet - Brook
Harris - Juulsen

Primeau - McNiven
Extras: Verbeek, Alzner, Leskinen

Personal comments: -I personally don't think Domi gets a long term deal in Montreal, pretty sure it'll be 3 years or under otherwise he'll be traded.
-Pretty sure they'll resign Joe Cox in Laval but can't see him in the line up.
-Please Montreal, trust Lindgren.

    Lehkonen - Domi - Armia

Lehkonen is such a good defensive forward that he takes all the offense away from anyone he's paired with (Domi and KK being good examples) so I don't want him to be anywhere around my skilled guys, his defensive abilities keeps him in the lineup for special assignments only.
I also want to see Suzuki on the second line but I won't give 6M$ AAV to someone so he can play on the third line (That's why I've mentionned it in my comments).
Allison has all the skills needed to be a good middle six winger from the get go and anyways won't sign with a team to play fourth line minutes as he'll be free to chose where he plays.
Kovalchuk is good on both wings but is better on his strong side LW.

    Not trying to
Also if Lehkonen is good defensively, would you put him on defense?
    ColonelX liked this.
