Despite Hughes had a poor season, I'd say VAN adds.

His potential is near Eichel level. That's much higher than Boeser's really.

NJ wouldn’t do this even if Vancouver added two 1st rd picks.

I am a huge Canucks hater but even I know Boeser is a future 40 goal scorer. Its a fair price for Hughes and his untapped potential.

You don’t trade a future 1C for a winger. It doesn’t matter if boeser Is a future 50 goal scorer, elite teams have two centers that are top line caliber

Fair value or no, if you’re drafting a franchise winger, you don’t trade away your franchise centre for a winger

The fact is neither team would consider this really. VAN is a lot closer to contending than NJ is, so the time it would take for Hughes to get to the level of production boeser is already at would inhibit them from being contenders and it wouldnt make sense for NJ to give up the higher potential player when they arent as close to contending

Not to get too pedantic, but is he franchise center?

I believe VAN would do this about as much as I believe Hughes' height is 5'11".

I mean right now, yes. Less than a full season after being picked 1st overall, you’re still a franchise centre imo. Could turn out to be a 1B or elite 2C but yea

This made no senses, Vancouver accept right away. Having Petterssen-Horvat-Hugues-Gaudette is really good, it’s like MTL trading Romanov for McDavid, both teams decline, MTL need LHD for the future and Oilers needs to win now lol
