NHL allows one compliance buyout with no CAP hit like they did in 2013 after the lockout. Gotta get rid of McDonagh contract as its the largest of non core and Sergachev is a younger replacement already to make it the easiest to get to the CAP number. Then they can move Killorn and Paquette who do not have full NTC. Bring up some young talent to fill the bottom six. Wasn't concerned with the trades other then the players are tradeable.

Cernak takes a 2 year bridge, Shattenkirk takes less to stay since still getting paid by NYR. Find a capable LD who can play 7-8 min on the 3rd pair. Yes the team is not as good as it was but its still a good team that can complete. Leaves Johnson for the taking for Seattle the following year as well.

Without a buyout it would be real interesting to see how they can get to the 81.5M CAP and keep Cirelli, Sergachev and Cernak.

Ah yes, the oldest trick in the book.. buyout the very, very good top 4D (borderline top 2) on a good contract but don't buyout a 5M 4th liner..

I would rather and also love to buy out the 5M 4th line winger but that extra 1.75M on the McDonagh deal goes a long way to help make it under the 81.5M cap and they have Sergachev to help replace McDonagh. I don't see if I bought out Gourde or Johnson how I could get to 81.5M while also trying to be somewhat realistic.

Definitely interesting, would fix most of the issues they will have but he is only 25 years old. Worth thinking about for sure.

McDonagh's a good defenceman, I'd trade him for a good prospect rather than buy him out, and give Sergachev a 6-8 year deal worth 5.5 or 6 mill, and I do believe in spreading out the talent throughout the lineup but I wouldn't put a guy that makes over 5 mill in the bottom 6

If he accepted a trade that would be even better and yes McDonagh is a very good defenceman I agree, but I was just trying to fit everyone inside the 81.5M cap while also trying to be somewhat realistic to the cap numbers for the RFAs. The extra 1.75M they would clear for McDonagh is huge in terms of filling out the team at 81.5M.

I think if Gourde is put in the top six he would be a 50 point player. I will move him there.

Both Cirelli and Cernak get more, Don't see Sergachev getting more then Cirelli. Both probably get similar money.

Cernak is a two year deal hence the lower number, like Darnell Nurse and Josh Manson took in the past.

Sergachev and CIrelli are three year deals. I think my numbers are close. Sergachev matches the McAvoy deal and Cirelli on a 3 year bridge is fair deal he might get a couple hundred thousand more but that can be worked into this example.

Maybe so, but he has said to local press here in Tampa he would like to stay and he knows it would be at a discount. Even if its not Shattenkirk this version still leaves some money 2M to try and get someone for the D core at a reasonable contract. Again, I was trying to fit a team together under 81.5M. Hence why I created players such as Left Defense for 1M and 7th Defense for $700,000 as I have no idea who they could be at this point.

I agree if its at 81.5M cap its going to suck for a bunch a teams no doubt as they will struggle to make it all work. That is why I think its definitely possible the compliance buyout is brought back.

a buyout would be tricky but marner would be the candidate for that, love him but should be on a rantenan contract
