Ehlers and Pietrangelo

Created by: Billy739
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 21, 2020
Published: Mar. 21, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Domi take 6.35m for a Full NMC same as TBL core group has done with those taking more offered no protection. Domi understands Danault ,Tatar and Gallagher will all likely be signing a deal with a similar structure within 500k of his deal.

Pietrangelo gets 8.25m over 5 years giving him a payday worth his time and a term both sides can live with with Chiarot,Weber and Pietrangelo our top 4 has Size,Skill ,Leadership and most important Focus. (any LD we train or sign that slots in with them will benefit . )

Matt Murray was an excellent Tandem Goalie as Back Up and since returning to those roots behind Jarry has played well. For this reason MTL offer sheets him at 4.225m over 5 years figuring in PIT position with jarry and Desmith combined with tight cap space that a 2nd round pick has more value then carrying Murray for 5 years .(maybe they match , if they do we'll sign Halak for 4m over 2 years)

Alzner for Johnson with KA buried is essentially the same cap hit but 1 year shorter.
MTL retains on johnsons 3 year term to move him out to WSH for bottom pair RD Jensen.
Jensen behind MTL's top 2 RD just needs to play 18 minutes without being worse then an AHL player in order to make this work for MTL even in a failing scenario.(in a good scenario he runs our top pair PK and is a reliable shot blocker)

Top 3 lines Chemistry i like as is but that said if Kovalchuk wants to leave for more money that's fine but in 5/7 games in WSH he was pointless and struggling so i dont see him having the leverage all things considered coronavirus screwed his hopes of redeeming his value this year.

Longterm its doable but tight.
We'll rely on Gallagher,Danault and Tatar taking deals similar to Domi.
Anything more and we'll have to move Byron out or choose not to sign 1/3 UFA's above.

Terrible for Winnipeg, Ehlers is worth a lot more. Pietrangelo is also going to get a lot more.

Would you offer than for Laine (or Connor) and expect to get them?

Pietrangelo will probably get offered more money over a longer term as well. Wouldn't makes sense for him to take middling term on a deal as it would hurt his overall earnings.

Winnepeg says no in a heartbeat. Ehlers is a good young winger on a fair contract. While they could use help on RD, Petry is 32 and signed for only one more year. Lehkonen is an okay 3rd liner, nothing more. The 1st doesn't do much for them as they are trying to win over the next few years. Just not a good enough package for Ehlers.

you didnt just put Ehlers on Laine and Connor level , did you?

i mean i'd pay big for them no issues
want 2-3 firsts and Caufield , have em

but we're talking Ehlers here a 15-16 minutes guy with good numbers
He's streaky though with 1-2 good 60+ point seasons then a season he cant hit 40

he's got value but wait until next year when he's at 37 points at the end of the year and WPG trying to offload him again
i can give them a better player then Lehkonen for sure but i just dont feel Ehlers is worth it
that said i could give up a Prospect as we'll have them out the Wazoo after this draft

Poehling ?
Brook?
i'd even do throw in Norlinder or Ikonen
(Caufield and Suzuki are off limits and its unlikely we'll trade KK )

With his good contract, yes I would take Ehlers over Laine and Connor with their contracts

Any team in a position to offer him more and more term isnt close to a playoff run
MTL is about as close as he'll find in this situation and like NYR lured Panarin for less then what others offered by offering him security a chance to be the tip of the spear leading the new youth core

You're passing on Younger 30-40 Goal Scorers for an inconsistent 20 goal scorer because you like his cap ?

Really?... i mean if it was like a legit reason that made sense i'd be on board
but we're talking about a cap that here and WPG is being given an unprotected 1st to find its next Laine in the early 1st or Connor in the late.

Ehlers is good but he's like Danault good
i mean its good but if you offered me the choice between my Rivals top 6 Centers and Danault i'd take both over him because they're superior (and have been for about as long as he's been pro)
Ehlers is good but he's got no 40 goal potential or 80 points projections .

It was known for a while that Panarin wanted to play in either New York or Florida. Any team that makes Petro a legit offer will have trade security included, this isn't exclusive to MTL. This contract just doesn't make sense for him.

It's because SOME of our fellow Habs fans have made questionable/troll trade non-stop.

Anyway....despite all the circumstances (relationship between Max and the Habs organization), Max Pacioretty trade gave the Habs bluechip prospect Nick Suzuk, 2nd round and winger Tomas Tatar. Ehlers is younger than Pacioretty and he's on a nice contract so the package, so Habs would have to give something very very good to get him.

Pitrangelo wants more than that lul St louis offered more 8.5 and he turned it down, Ehlers aint leaving winnipeg they already plan to terminate byfuglin giving them money to spend on a proper d core next season. I dont see them going for Murray to expensive hes probably gone from Pit but aint going to montreal probs gonna be on a team in need of a new starter.

St. Louis will move someone like Bozak and give Pietrangelo $9M+, he’s the Captain and the Blues are one of the best teams in the league, he isn’t going to accept less to go to a fringe playoff team.

For starters, Petro will get considerably more than that if he gets to the open market. I would think 7x9 would be the absolute minimum, and i think that’s a stretch.
