Tyler Johnson agrees to waive for Boston with the intent of being bought out and pursuing some greener pastures elsewhere. His game has slipped and he knows it a fresh start might be all he needs to rediscover what made him so dangerous in 2015.

Boston dont have a player on their roster they would buyout so they sell their compliance buyout.

Is the NHL exploring the option of allowing every team to do 1 compliance buyout?

There's been some articles about the possibility of that since the cap hit may stay the same next year with the league stoppage. Some teams have players with huge contracts setting in next year that were signed last offseason (like Vasilevsky with Tampa) and it could be argued that it's unfair if teams were expecting the cap to rise a couple million and now they might be forced to either give assets up in a trade to get rid of high cap players or do a regular buyout and have a long-term cap penalty from having to buy a player out in order to be under the cap next year. A compliance buyout would help those teams in particular be under the cap, but at the same time it's also unfair to give certain teams a compliance buyout, so it would likely be league wide if it happened.

Going off the assumption that they get one with the salary cap either not rising as predicted or going backwards.

Why wouldnt Tampa try and do something to get around the cap and keep their three key rfas? Why wouldnt boston get prospects for free?

First of all tampa would do these trades any day. Second Boston is not gonna help tampa bay as they are in the same division and rivals. Boston is gonna ask for a top prospect and a first. Maybe even more. If boston does this their helping tampa. Vegas is definitely not doing this for free.

Honestly dont know enough about the prospects in the package to BOS. Being a divison rival and one of the bigger competition for a cup, it would take a no brainers package to help Tampa out

I'm pretty sure there's only one trade going on here. I think sending Gourde to Vegas is just a way to get him off the roster
