Buyout Candidate from Each Team

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2019-20 Custom Team
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 22, 2020
Published: Mar. 22, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The problem with the rumored "free buyout" idea is that not all teams need one. I have difficulty coming up with buyout candidates for the following teams:

Anaheim (the Ducks don't really need to buy David Backes out)
Arizona
Boston
Carolina
Colorado
Dallas (unless they've given up on Joe Pavelski)
Florida
Las Vegas
Los Angeles (unless they are allowed to get rid of Kovalchuk's contract)
Philadelphia
Toronto (after all that cap shtuss)
Washington
Winnipeg

Would the management of these teams okay this one-time buyout without some sort of compensating action?

Penguins is Jack Johnson by far. Hornqvist still bring a lot to our team even though his cap hit is a little too high

Florida would probably get rid of Matheson or Bobrovski. I could also see doughty being a good buyout candidate. If teams with no buyout options were smart they would take on these bad contracts like Martin Jones and a high pick or prospect so they could use their compliance buyout instead of just wasting it.

I think DeKeyser is still productive in Detroit. Abdelkader should be the better option.

Also, is Jeff Skinner not allowed to be bought out? Him and Okposo have similar production and Skinner is on a worse contract.

I don't think the cap will go down or that there will be any compliance buyouts, but in a scenario where there are:

ARI: Raanta or maybe Goligoski. Raanta is good but they are going in another direction so it makes sense to get him off the books.
ANH is interesting. They don't have anything terrible right now, but some of those deals could get very bad, very quickly. I don't think it would happen because GM's are so shortsighted in this league but I would look at Fowler or Henrique.
BOS: John Moore
CAR: Not sure what direction they want to go but the easy candidates are Nino, Skjei, Gards, or one of the goalies. Unless they can get a UFA goalie I'd personally go with one of Nino or Skjei, not that it will happen (especially Skjei since they just got him).
COL: Johnsson, maybe Cole but more likely they use the slot as leverage to gain assets.
DAL: Many options. Lindell (I know it wont happen, but it should), Pavs, or Cogs.
FLA: Bob. Not sure how you missed this one.
LVK: Maybe Holden? Could likely use the slot to leverage a trade for assets.
LAK: Brown, Carter, or Quick. Could be one of those teams trading assets to lose more than one contract
PHI: Gost or Niskanen
TOR: Dubas trimmed more or less all of the fat from this roster. Can likely use the slot to gain assets.
WSH: Oshie
WPG: Little, Perrault (Buff?)

For Carolina? Jordan Staal, easily. Good player still, but that deal could look quite toxic next offseason when you consider JR's insanely dumb decision to give him a NMC for 10 years!! Remember, there's an Expansion Draft in Seattle coming up. Guys like Nino, Gardiner, and Skjei are on pretty solid contracts and are good Expansion Draft fodder.

I disagree. Aside from the $2.25 million difference in cap hit for three whole years, Johnson can be bought out or sent down cheaply; Hornqvist can't.

There is no GM in the League with the stones to sign a player to a multi-year $10 million contract and then one year later, say he made a mistake.

Doughty will be a good mentor for the developing defensemen as Los Angeles returns to relevance; the Kings have no urgent cap need nor one on the horizon.

Most of the players you list are still productive and have value on the trade market as well as on the ice. No GM in the world is going to sign a player to a $10 million contract one year and then say he made a mistake the next; I didn't "miss" that one. Odds are that Little will go on permanent LTIR like the other current walking dead. Carter is a possibility for the Kings.

They definitely dont but they should. Especially with Floridas owners saying they want to cut 10 million off the cap. That's a big F U to everyone running the show there. Doughty isnt great anymore and even if he is a good leader I wouldnt want him at 11 million for 6 more years

He's not even a checking forward at this point. He's buried in grand Rapids to start next year if I had to guess
