If the NHL is considering cutting the cap this season, do you think it bodes well for what could be an $8M (assuming it drops to $80M) rise in the salary cap the following year? When the cap last went down (12/13), it rose about 7.2% the following season. Applying that to the same assumed $80M results in a $5.7M increase. $88M over the next two seasons - possibly even three seasons - is a tad optimistic.

the increase in cap is very reliant on the league wide revenue. the jump in cap will be based on that, not the last time a compliance buyout took place. If they dont finish this season due to COVID there is a chance it also causes a shortened season next year too

Which is all fine and dandy.

I'm merely looking at precedent: if what I've highlighted is a best-case-scenario, $88M is still very much a pipe dream.

You also have to factor in the NHLPA, there is a very low chance they let the cap raise that much because of Escrow

Anything else you need to add? Nothing in my statement was wrong. What value are you adding by continuing to "but also.." my posts? I'm not arguing in favour of such a high cap, I don't see what you're getting at.

the CBA don't expire until 2022 which is after the 2021-22 season, so there's no real reason why they should cut the cap until then other than now. and besides, we would get more cap room for every game missed for next season if they cancel the rest of the season, that's the only good things about the lockout.
