Its basically the equivalent of an offersheet but this way Tampa gets some players that can play on their roster right away versus getting prospects with the picks. TB is in win now mode not rebuilding hence why they trade picks every year at the deadline.

It's a pretty fair deal for both sides imo. If I were Sabres GM I would maybe offer a little bit more if necessary say like a Pilut, Borgen or Bryson but not a whole lot more. Cirelli is a very good 2C.

So why would they trade a very good 2C for picks, players with no NHL track record, and Ristolainen?

The only reason TB trades Cirelli is cap space. They are much better off with Cirelli at 8x6 than Ristolainen at 2x5.4. No cap relief and an inferior player?? I'd guess they pass...

Buffalo wins both those trades. Need to sweeten the pot, especially on the Wild trade, for either team to accept

It's not. Trading Cirelli and not getting a 1st back or cap relief?? Sabres couldn't make the 7 year 6 mil offersheet. They can make the max or a 2nd rd offer. TB matches the 2nd rd offer and I doubt the Sabres make a 10+ mil offer and lose 4 1st rounders...

Would you trade Cirelli for a top 5 pick in 2020?

we could easily acquire a 2nd rounder in a different trade then offer sheet
1st 2nd 3rd round picks

because I saw they have Zach Bogosian in their lineup which means they could definitely use help on D, they have been rumored to be interested in Risto in the past and they will have a hard time paying Cirelli without getting into serious cap trouble long term

They definitely could use help on D, so getting Ristolainen isn't a great idea lol

If they can afford to pay Ristolainen, they can afford to pay Cirelli.

Sabres don't have the required assets to make an OS with a compensation of a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

The team needs their own pick in an OS. The Rangers own the Sabres 3rd rd pick for 2021. I'm sure they'd trade it back. See if Lundqvist will waive his nmc , trade him and the Sabres 3rd back to the Sabres....

If this was possible, I’d absolutely love it

But Tampa would want Cozens
MAYBE we could sucker them into Mitts if we are lucky
Gotta remember they can’t take any Cap back
That’s the only reason they’d let Cirelli go in the first place

Idk if that Minny trade works or not,
but my guess is that they’d want 1 piece that’s higher end than Tage or McCabe
Would live to get Brodin & sign him
