If Rask Retires

Created by: Jeuck75

Description
If Rask retires the Bruins are going to be in real trouble when it comes to goaltending. Halak is a good goalie but is likely to retire soon or leave to free agency.

Hopefully Rask doesn't retire though. He is one of my favorite goalies and it'll be sad to see him go.

If Rask retires could Holtby be an option?

I think he has starter upside, but I'm biased as he's one of my favorite Bruins prospects. He's also my avatar tears of joy

Yeah, don't follow him that closely but

-Walter Brown Award winner (best American-born college hockey player in New England)
-Hobey Baker finalist
-named Hockey East Player of the Year
--No NCAA G faced more shots than him this season (1,170)
-34 GP, 2.07 GAA and .939 SV% in his 3rd year

4th rounder in '17+likely backup to Dan Vladar in the AHL next year
IMO, he can be at least, a fringe starter if not a starter but that's only me

He is thinking about but I don't think he'll retire, just a feeling. Maybe later but not after this contract

So this is '20-21 and he'll still be there and if after, Bruins won't sign a UFA G to a long-term contract. They will see where Vladar, Swayman and Keyser are at (confident at least one of them will be a starter) and prob sign a G for one or two years IF Rask retires in '21.

He said he's not sure he'll continue playing when his current deal ends, which is after the 20-21 season.

Or the year after this ACGM, so no, they don't sign Holtby or Lehner.

That’s crazy. He’s an elite goalie. Tied for best SV% of all time (although obviously it’s a skewed stat because the game has changed a lot throughout the decades). But still, he’s a top goalie in the NHL. I can’t believe he’s considering retirement

Don't be shocked if Vladar gets a chance to earn the back-up role for Rask. That leaves Swayman and Keyser to split starts in the AHL.

Btw Swayman has flat out carried Maine since he was a freshman. They had no business being in most games, yet Swayman backstopped them to wins. Bruins are very high on him.

*update - Just announced as a semifinalist for the Mike Richter (best goalie in college hockey)

I may be a bit late to the party but I would say yes he definitely has potential. Being from Maine I have had the opportunity to watch him play pretty regularly,, which might also make me biased. He has great athleticism which carried him his freshman year and over his last two season has made huge strides towards being a positional goalie. He rarely gets beat on first shots and has the athleticism to make the 2nd and 3rd saves. Now I do think they thing he needs to work on is not playing down to the competition, a couple Northeastern and Providence games come to mind this season where he didn't show up, relatively I suppose, for a game Maine should have won.

I live in Massachusetts and I saw him at a Umass Lowell game last season. He had great athleticism as you said. Can’t wait to see how he ends up.
