Rielly is a pylon defensively who had one outstanding year, a 52 point year, and then a bunch of 30/40 point years. He’s a good player no doubt, and his contract is good, but he doesn’t have one of the best contracts in the NHL. Personally I don’t believe Chychrun, Klingberg or Parayko should be there either. Once again they’re all good / great players, but still not “best contracts” in the NHL. How do they leave off hedman whose arguably the best D in the NHL, and makes less than 8 million long term? If hedman hit the open market he could make 10+ Million easily.

As for Nylander, again, a good contract, but is he better than pasta, Bergeron, Marchand, Mackinnon, Barkov, Zibanejad, Guentzel, Huberdeau, etc... who all make less than him? The answer is no

Probably should have Hedman on there but I was trying to consider every aspect of the contract and almost 8m til he's 35 isn't as good as some of these other ones IMO. The only guy post-prime I put on here was Sid but guys like Stone, Hedman, etc are definitely still outproducing their contracts and should for a few more years.

How is McDavid a best contract? Meanwhile Marchand is one of the top LW's in the game making just over $6m and hes not here lol.

He overperforms that 12.5m AAV easily - Edmonton will get far more value than 100 million out of those 8 years.

I was gonna put Marchand on here but he went for a line change out of no where and I couldn't find him. Nah I tried to look at the value over the full contract - and aging is hard to predict - but Marchand's age 32-36 years will probably be similar in value to his 6.125m AAV if I had to guess.

Edit: Tbh he's more valuable than Marchessault so I'll put him on the list.
