Sensible Moves

Created by: Billy739
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 25, 2020
Published: Mar. 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
-Murray signs for 3.5m at which point PIT decided to take the 2nd round pick compensation while they push Jarry and Desmith at the NHL level. Murray gets a chance to play tandem behind a true Starter and hopefully start to play well as he had behind MAF (he's buying time so we can develop CP30 right in Laval)

-Domi re-signs Team friendly 6.25m for maximum term , Full NMC clause and 1m per years in Signing Bonus's

-Mete signed for less to get a 2 year NMC to protect him in the expansion draft over Chiarot.

-Kovalchuk takes a 1 year deal at 3.5m cap half of which is signing bonus

-Joseph and Fischer are both 4th line players who have the potential for more.
i think sticking them with Nate Thompson will help them like it did Suzuki.

-Thompsons's the ideal 4th line Center who fits in here

-De La Rose and Ritchie are pretty solid relief players incase of injury

These moves were all about trying to find Chemistry and Mentors for the youth.
Kotkanemi ,Groulx,Andersson,Fleury ,Evans,Ylonen and Primeau will all stay and develop in Laval

Since we're obviously not a contender why not throw together a underdog team for a Playoff run while developing out top prospects in Laval as well as letting a couple cut their teeth in the NHL like Poehling .

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Benn, Jordie
Additional Details:
Swap of #6/7 D

VAN gets the younger guy with potential for slight growth to a #6 regular if put in the right position with the right partner
VAN
  1. Kulak, Brett
Additional Details:
MTL gets Benn back a player we know and who knows our system to mentor Romanov and help him settle in with Kovalchuk's help ofcourse .
2.
MTL
  1. Andersson, Axel
  2. Groulx, Benoit-Olivier
  3. 2021 2nd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
-If Danault wins the cup or re-signs with ANA before the 2021 draft then MTL recieves a 2022 1st round pick instead
ANA
  1. Danault, Phillip
  2. Weal, Jordan
Additional Details:
MTL's return
-B+ prospect with potential to be a 3rd line Center or a middle 6 winger. (maybe like Gallagher he climbs to top line in his later 20's but likely settles in like Armia in middle 6)

-Andersson is going to need 3 years minimum to develop before he'll be ready for even a Call Up but i watch him at Groulx live in Moncton a lot (or did) and i think he's got potential to be a 2nd pair player if we develop him right as he's got leadership qualities and steps up when a hero is needed .

-conditional pick a year out that could turn into a potential 1st in 2 years .
3.
MTL
  1. Fischer, Christian [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Fischer has in a very similar decline over 3 years as Domi before being traded from ARZ . (but he's not got Domi's upside and is more of an Andrew Shaw type player potential wise but right now he's less effective then Deslauriers or Cousins was for us )

i was just going to offer sheet him knowing ARZ is in a tight cap situation with only 4m cap before Hinnistroza ,Soderberg ,Lyubushkin or Hall .

Lehkonen at 1.2m for that 1 year gets you to the next year where that strain in the cap is gone as all 3 of their 30+ year old D are gone along with others giving them almost 40m to spend .

Fischer will no doubt want more then that and MTL is offersheeting him at 2m if this trade gets declined so its only a 3rd round pick compensation.
ARI
  1. Lehkonen, Artturi ($1,200,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Lehkonen is good for 25-30 points on average as a defensive shut down player who's reliable on PK1. This is about where his potential's tapped out although he might have the odd 40 point season he's a 3rd line checking player .(fore check , back check .. . he's always on the move never idle)

his lack of potential signifigantly lowers his value but not as low as Fischer

On what planet would Murray sign for 4 x 3.5, You're paying him $250,000 less then what he's currently making. No way in hell he signs that offer RFAs have to get 10% more on their qualifying offers to get their rights retained. And this doesn't do it. You obviously don't know how RFAs work.

Something like that 10% of $3.75 million sounds about right.

Wow that Murray offer sheet is matched without hesitation. This is worse than Sebastian Aho.

why ?
they wont even Qualify him
not with his play , their cap situation and having 2 better goalies ready today .

the rules state whether he's worth it or not PIT has to offer him more to keep him
Just like VAN with Hutton they'll say F that we got better options and they need the room to grow

Jarry > Murray
Desmith>Murray as a back up

Jarry-Desmith have chemistry playing Tandem in AHL

Murray's done nothing since being handed the keys to the Kingdom by 3 times SC champ MAF
MAF as per usual is still making finals appearances while PIT since choosing Murray the dud over MAF PIT has only 1 a single Playoff Round

Tell me again why they'd offer Murray anything when Jarry -Desmith actually earned their pays?
