Pens with Laf and comp buyout

Created by: mhockey91
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 25, 2020
Published: Mar. 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is assuming the NHL uses a similar lottery format as the 2005 lockout season. I don’t think they will be it could be an option. Pittsburgh then ends up getting very lucky and wins first overall

Obviously very unlikely but I’m bored while self isolating lol

It’s even more incredible when you realize that Pittsburgh doesn’t hold a draft pick this year.

It’s even more incredible when you realize the conditions of the trade:

“Minnesota will receive Pittsburgh's own first-round pick in the 2020 draft if the Penguins make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. If Pittsburgh does not qualify for the postseason, it will have the option to instead give Minnesota its first-round pick in 2021.”

Obviously there’s a lot of variables at play. This is assuming the NHL follows suit with the 2005 NHL draft lottery procedure. I don’t think they will, but it’s certainly possible. If they were to infact use that procedure, and pens somehow got lucky and landed 1st overall, then this would be the result

My bad the bio didn’t save

If the NHL uses a similar procedure to the 2005 draft. I’m sure it’s been brought up. Don’t think they’ll use it, but it’s definitely an option. There’s a lot of uncertainty with the remainder of the NHL season and draft currently as I’m sure you’re aware

      NO CHANCE!

They will go off point % to determine seeding. Then, it will either be a regular lottery or no lottery. The best they could do for playoff teams is hold a lottery for 16-18th overall among playoff teams

I wouldn’t say no chance, it’s unlikely but possible

What bio you didn’t write anything!! And Pittsburgh isn’t missing the playoffs this year. The season will resume and they will be healthy for the first time this year, they will probably win the cup again this year.

Theres a reason teams are in their specific position. They played 68 games in the season, that should be enough to determine season. Ottawa would get screwed sooo bad. Right now the worse they can pick is 5 and 6.

Yeah I said my bad, cap friendly glitched. I’m trying to remain being optimistic about the season resuming but I just don’t see it. Pens are only 6 points removed from being out of the playoffs, so while obviously they SHOULD make the playoffs, it’ll be interesting to see what the NHL does to accommodate the draft lottery since the standings this year are very tight

It just depends what the NHL does to determine the lottery. Like I said pens are only in the playoffs by 6 points. While they SHOULD make it in real life, because the standings are so tight it’ll be interesting to see what happens. I agree it’ll probably be the bottom 18ish teams though like you said. Makes more sense I’m just bored. This has never happened before in the history of the NHL so there’s a lot of unknowns

If they cancel this year season they probably use the same system that they use for crosby. So team that have miss playoff for three straight year have three ball, then team who miss 2 out of three 2 ball and all other team get one ball.

Yeah 2005 shouldnt be the rule. Its an exception. 68 games is more than 80% of the season, this is more like the shortened lockout year. Its going to be a mess tho and cant please everyone. No playoffs and teams that traded picks for rentals will want them back. Add a compliance buyout and Boston will complain they traded a 1st to get rid of Backes and will want it back. Make a playoff and teams that just missed will say it isnt fair.

Yeah that’s what I was basing it off of. It’s a possibility. So with this armchair I basically just said pens get very lucky and it happens. The only reason I created this team was because someone made an armchair that was pens trading Matt Murray for Laf (LOL) and I decided to show the only possible way for pens to acquire him (even though this is still so unlikely)

Exactly. You’re 100% right. This is just one big mess and no one saw it coming. I was living in France and everything went from business as usual to complete lockdown in a matter of days. Stay safe out there. This is an unprecedented event

What would u say if they did a reverse draft. 1 round from worst to best, then 1 round from best to worse etc.
Lottery is done the same way as usual.
So, Detroit has the best odds at 1, then Boston gets 32nd overall, St Louis 33rd etc

If there is for some CRAZY reason another league-wide draft lottery and Pittsburgh wins it again (with again the next Océanic prodigy going 1st overall). I'm calling shenanigans, and I think every team should leave the NHL to create a new league - leaving Pittsburgh behind and forever alone.

Google 2005 NHL draft lottery. Right now there is so much uncertainty around the draft Order if the season ends. This is just one theory. There are wayyyy more

That’s similar to 2005 draft when they did the snake draft. It just sucks for teams that traded their late seconds and now they’re early seconds in a deep draft. But... as you said, in this Situation there is no pleasing everyone

There are a lot of theories being floated. Check @csick link that he posted. This is not going to be like a traditional draft lottery
