The penguins would never agree to that.

They aren't going to trade a solid young goalie who they have control over for so little.
Especially with so little to go off of on Jarry.

They won't make a move till next year. It's to important for them as a team. They have cup hopes. Solid goalie play is important and Jarry has all of 33 games of solid play under his belt.

I'm no Cap-ologist even though I play one on TV, but the J. Skinner "flip" from OTT to BUF may not be in-compliance is it?
Is there any historical evidence of teams doing the flip you show; if so, it'd be a good move for many teams...?

This is just absolutely brutal.

For starters, there are not going to be buy outs.

Secondly, Jeff Skinner will not agree to such a garbage contract. Good God

Matt Murray is overrated and I dont want to pay goalies. How does Pilut get 6 million with like 40 career games?

No pick before the 4th round for the next 2 years? Jesus Christ

A guy who couldn't cut it in the AHL is our 2C? My God

The Rangers 8th defenseman is playing left wing? Oh dear

Trouba has a NTC and staged a 4 year cold war with Winnipeg to get moved to NY, he isn't going to leave after one year and the Rangers laugh for days at that offer

WSH traded Orpik to COL who bought him out and then he re-sign with Washington I think

It wasn't a compliance buyout. Those moves were forbidden last time there were compliance buyouts

I doubt Eugene Melnyk would want to pay a player that doesn’t play for them $41.3 million.

I don't want to go down a rat-hole but if Skinner goes to OTT and is a compliance-buyout it's my understanding that OTT cannot sign him for 1-yr.

The CBA language below from CapF. is very vague to me and doesn't seem to inhibit such transactions as originally posted by "sabres262"

Compliance Buyout
During the buyout periods in 2013 and 2014, teams were permitted two compliance buyouts (also known as amnesty buyouts). The formula above is applied to determine the monetary amount paid to the player; however, they do not count against the cap.

Compliance buyouts were only permitted to be executed on a contract that was entered into on or before Sept. 15, 2012. They were also permitted to be performed on a 35-plus contract.

For one season following a compliance buyout, players were not permitted to rejoin the team which performed the buyout (this restriction does not exist for normal buyouts).

I assume the Sept 15, 2012 date above ^ ^ could be adjusted by NHL/NHLPA...?

I think goaltending is fickle and inconsistent and the difference between a great goalie and a good goalie is about 10 goals a year (looking at save percentage). I would rather build a team and fill in a goalie, than pay big bucks for one

This the part everyone seems to miss. It's cap free not cash free.

It would cost Ottawa 46.333 to buyout Skinner or 62 to keep him. They'd be better off keeping him. Skinner would never waive his NMC to Ottawa...

Dude... the Tierney trade??? 😳😳😳

Ottawa is cheap. Their owner won’t trade for someone to buy them out.

And Skinner isn’t signing anywhere close to 3mil per on a 3year deal if he becomes a UFA
If he did take a cheap deal, it would be for 1 year
He’s overpaid, but if u out him back with Eichel or get him a real center (like Cozens) then he’ll be just fine

If u really want Tierney... just trade Tage straight up for him
Maybe add a pick (definitely not a 1st, probably not even a 2nd)
He’s a 3C, so let’s not get crazy here

The rest is interesting...
But that Tierney trade is really, really bad

Yeah, the Sabres have been doing the fill in goalie thing for the past 10 years. Working really well for them. Keep doing things the same.

Playoff teams don’t have “fill in” goalies.
If Sabre management believes in your logic, Eichel will starting begging out real quick.

The NHL is turning into a 2 goalie system, not a couple fill ins.

Also, 10 goals could be the difference in 10 losses. That’s playoff make or break.

Tage Thompson, who is now 4 years past his draft year and has nothing to show for it is not getting a 40+ point center.

Goaltending has been like 1393rd on the list of things the sabres have done wrong.

Did I say goaltending wasn't important? No, I just said I wouldn't overpay for it in a league that has a hard salary cap.

Ok, fine... Asplund or something other “B” prospect
Plus maybe a mid round pick like i said before

Certainly not Skinner, a 1st & a 2nd
That’s just crazy
