Canes would buy out a bigger contract. Most likely one would be Staal IMO

Edmonton would likely buy Neal out, not Russell. Ol' cowboy has a year left on a low-cash, high hit deal. Edmonton retains on half of that and he can be moved anywhere on his 15-team list no problem.

Considering Dundon and how Staal's contract isn't terrible, I think that the Canes would be one of those teams that trade for a buyout in exchange for a sweetener. Vlasic, Martin Jones, Parise, Neal, Price, Weber, or Suter perhaps.

Honestly man gotta agree with @BeterChiarelli Neal would be bought out

Long term deal at maybe 2 or 3 million over what he should be making.

Add Anaheim, Colorado and Los Angeles to teams that don't need a buyout, and would trade for one if possible; they aren't anywhere near the cap ceiling even if it doesn't move this summer. (The Avalanche buying out a $1,450,000 cap hit probably won't cover the cost of the internal staff drawing up the paperwork.) The problem with this theory is that there aren't too many teams that need TWO buyouts (only Tampa Bay comes readily to mind, unless San Jose wants to move both Burns and Vlasic).

I can't believe Chicago wouldn't buy out Seabrook.

Staal is viewed highly by coaching and management though
