First 3 Rounds 2020 Draft

Created by: PLDGEY
Team: 2019-20 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 26, 2020
Published: Mar. 26, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ran the Tankathon Lottery. Ottawa lands the 1st and 5th overall picks. For the rest of these, im going to assume their picks based on the current season standings.

While I think OTT will and should package to move up on some of these picks, I wont bother to make assumptions based on what other teams might want... so imma just draft straight. Players in Brackets would be alternates at this point

Just doing this for fun, to compare against come draft day (when it eventually comes)

OTT 1st: 1st - Lafreniere
SJ 1st: 5th - Lucas Raymond (Perfetti)
NYI 1st: 17th - Jan Mysak (Jack Quinn) (Rodion Amirov)
OTT 2nd: 33rd - Justin Barron (Zion Nybeck)
NYI 2nd: 48th - Marat Khusnutdinov (Jean-Luc Foudy)
CBJ 2nd: 49th - Tyson Foerster (Brandon Brisson)
DAL 2nd: 52nd - Ridly Greig (Antonio Stranges)
OTT 3rd: 64th - Shakir Mukhamadullin (Daniel Torgersen)
WPG 3rd: 78th - Brock Faber (Luke Evangelista)

Will Stranges really drop that low? I remember seeing him top 15 at the beginning of the year.

I think you should really be drafting a center with 5th oa

This team needs a future 1c

I know how good Raymond is but I would still put perfecto higher up because of the sens’ center issue. You cannot contend without a 1c and brown can be that but he has too much to figure out first to clear my doubts about him

I used 5 different projection sets, avg'ed the pick rank and if it was within 5 for the first 2 rounds and within 10 for the last round I thought it was a valid pick evaluation. A lot of spots for Stranges fell between 40 and 60

Rossi is totally a fair option. To me there are the top 3, the #1D and then theres Raymond/Holtz/Rossi and Perfetti all kind of lumped in. I liked Perfetti's edge/style so he got the nod over Rossi. I love Raymond. I think hes a top 3 any other year, I think hes the best RW available by a longshot and I like that he is coming from Frolunda (Im a bit higher on Torgenson is as well)

Brown is not a 1C yet, but we are also sitting on Pinto and Norris. If any of them turn out to be a Ryan Johansen-esque 60pt C, then Laf and Raymond on the wings will be enough to Carry the line.

I'm not sure about Perfetti as a Centre in the NHL. I'm even less sure about taking him over Rossi.

About 3 spots too early to go for him, probably. If he's being taken ahead of all the other guys there, ouff ouch owie best player available was tossed out the window. That's how you end up Montreal'ing it and taking Kotkaniemi ahead of much better talent.

I have it like this:
1) Laf
2-3) Byfield, Stutzle
4-5) Raymond, Drysdale
6-7) Rossi, Holtz
8-9) Perfetti, Lundell

To me Rossi is way ahead of Perfetti.

We have exactly the same rankings, except swap Rossi and Perfetti. I strongly considered putting Drysdale as the 5th choice, but theres a ton of great D available in the 2nd in which we have 4 picks

Idk why i just prefer Rossi over Perfetti and most Sens fans do. Hes also playing local so a bunch have seen him play.

Yeah being from Ottawa and going to all 67s games, I've seen him a lot. He's below Lundell as far as I'm concerned. I'd say (1) Laf (2) Byfield, Stutzle (3) Drysdale, Perfetti (4) Raymond, Holtz (5) Lundell, Rossi. He's a week away from being in last year's draft with okay numbers. Rossi is a few months younger than Adam Beckman, a 2019 3rd rounder who went from 0.91 PPG to 1.70 PPG vs Rossi's 1.23 PPG to 2.14 PPG. So, impressive yes, but red flags. Perfetti did similarly to Rossi with less talent (and far fewer overagers) around him while also being like 4 months younger. Plus he can actually skate; Rossi has the misfortune of being undersized and a poor skater. That doesn't often translate well and Debrincat is the exception. There's a reason Perfetti has surged in many rankings lately and Rossi is starting to drop down again. There's nobody in that top 10 with numbers more inflated by the team around him than Rossi.

Id gladly miss Rossi and try to grab Jack Quinn with the NYI pick
