Buyout and Flat Cap Year

Created by: AZWings
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 26, 2020
Published: Mar. 27, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
NHL institutes 1 compliance buyout due to revenue loss and institutes a flat cap for 2020-2021 season. Funny, but I don't think this is a terrible team. It's not a great team but progress can be made.

Yeah well good luck with that, If the cap goes down to $80 million and it easily could, Vegas will only have $7.35 million to sign 9 players. Unless Lehner is taken a rock bottom deal there's no way he stays with Vegas. I see Lehner going to the highest bidder and Detroit definitely can offer him the most money and longest term.

That would be great but I also don't think Lehner comes to Detroit. I was not a fan of Gagner until I saw him play in Detroit and I like he's pretty smart and has no problem playing physically and now I hope he stays in Detroit.

I don't think a CBO happens unless the cap drops.

I know right, Don't see Mantha getting more then the Chris Kreider deal at 7 x 6.5. Kreiders best two seasons are 53 points 5 more points better then Mantha's best two seasons he would be a big comparable.

Vegas is waaaaaaay too close to the cap to re-sign him. It’s been noted multiple times that this year Lehner isn’t going to take a discount to sign, he’s going to have his payday with his next contract.

Looks good. Still one of the worst teams in the league, but they’re on the right track. Plus there’s about a 50% chance that they have their 1st rounder from the draft playing for them next season (assuming Lafrenière, Byfield, and Stützle go 123, and that they all play in the NHL next year).

my thoughts on this exactly. Mantha is always injured. Who signs an injury prone guy to 8 million long term. Ouch.

Not sure i'd call Mantha injury prone just yet, Yes he did have two fights and two broken hands. Plus he was slew footed to the ice by Jack Muzzin. And broke a rib and punctured his lung. I guess i'd say he has been very unfortunate here lately.

According to Evolving-Wild, they have Mantha at 8 years x $8.5M per year and Bert at 7 years x $7M per year so I lowered both due to flat cap.

Also agree with the other comments; Vegas most likely can't afford to keep him unless they move out another contract. Detroit could also give him a longer-term/higher-value contract than most teams.

I was corrected on that the league can offer a CBO if the cap stays the same.
