His team looks good though. Even if Fox couldn’t stay, they could’ve traded him for to NYR for Trouba instead. But the Leafs drafting Marner was not a mistake. Failing to trade him to the Pens in 2018 for Cole & Hornqvist was.

Also, his roster looks, at best, about the same as it looks now, maybe a little better with Kadri over Kerfoot, but that kinda ignores that the leafs got other stuff in the trade (even if it didnt work out).
And if we wanted to pretend drafting guys who no one took until the 2nd round was a 'fatal error' than i could make a much better roster than this.

DeAngelo? Hell no, that would be a bad trade off. Pastrnak? Sure, but he'd go 1st over all in a re-draft

But no one mentions the players they Drafted were correct, Reilly's Draft year their were other Dman the scouts had at the same level who didn't pan out as well. And Marner was neck to neck with Strome and Hanafin.

The Leafs get what they’re missing in Cole & Hornqvist: defense & grit. Not to mention Hornqvist was a 30 goal scorer.

like, I can go on and on how awful a trade that would have been, but i can already tell that it wont convince you. Safe to say that would have been an all time bad trade. Hornqvist WAS a 30 goal scorer, before 2018, playing with Crosby and Malkin. He was also a 50 point guy. Playing with Crosby and Malkin. Ian Cole just sucks. If you think that would have been a good trade then i hope you get a job as GM of the Boston Bruins
