am i the only one who thinks Eichel > Matthews?

Yeah Matthews scores more... but when you consider the parings he has had vs. what Eichel has had... It's close but for what Eichel has around him I always give him the edge.

Matthews is a much better scorer and sniper. and has a ridiculous shot. And he is much better with his steals
But that's it Eichel is better in every other category

nah, Matthews is better defensively and Eichel's assist totals are ballooned by 2nd assists. Dont get me wrong, Eichel is fantastic, but he's not better than Matthews in any significant way, and is worse than him in most. Matthews is just stupid stupid good

I think Eichel is a better well rounded player. Matthews is slow and Eichel is fast and I think is better in most ways. But Matthews isn't far behind

He played with skinner and reinhart all last year. And mostly olofsson and reinhart this year. Those are much better linemates then matthews has ever had with the exception of marner and even then marner wasnt great this year. Matthews is also the better offensive player, besides just his goalscoring his ability to create high danger chances for himself and is linemates made him a top 5 offensive player by most models

but that's just it, he isnt. Matthews has a higher 1st assist rate, is better in his own end and is the better goal scorer. Sure Eichel is a faster player, but Matthews is by no means slow. Matthews is more well rounded by far.

Matthews is probably slightly better cuz of his goal scoring ability, but to me they are pretty lucky equal. However, neither centers are as good as prime Evgeni Malkin.

Marner wasn't great this year, wow, troll statement of the year, about half of Matthews goals scored this year was off sweet feeds from Marner's stick, just like half of J.T.'s 47 goals the previous season were set up by Marner's magic. Without Marner, neither J.T. or Matthews can flirt with being a 50 goal scorer.

Both are fantastic young players but if you gave me the choice between the two I'm taking Eichel every time.

He fits the Wild better than Matthews. It's close enough that it is a team-fit debate.

Agree 100%. But I prefer Eichel's game to Matthews. I think Eichel can produce more with less, but Matthews has proven he can score 50 goals with an elite playmaker.

Yeah. I think more that Eichel has helped grow Reinhart, Olofsson and boosted Skinner more than Matthews has boosted his teammates. It's more a neutral ground of helping each other in TOR with multiple elite talents, vs general top 6 forwards thriving among elite talent in BUF.

As a sabres fan, the two are pretty close. Matthews offense is awfully impressive. I thought eichel took big steps this year to be a more complete player, maybe because krueger is a defensive coach, maybe it was just the natural development. The sabres dont have anything near the leafs offense, eichel far too frequently has to carry the puck up ice by himself, gain the line, and then make a play. Or it doesnt happen at all. Which you see when you look at the percentage of goals eichel is involved in compared to the team as a whole. Matthews, eichel, and barkov are in that elite category, right behind mcdavid and mackinnon. Im still not sure where draisaitl fits.

It' pretty close value in the trade. But the Leafs aren't better with Eichel/Miller for Marner, Kapanen and Dermot. Cozens for Robertson and 1st....that could be close too.

I'd gladly take either of them...

You'd make the team/line work for either of Matthews/Eichel. They have enough wings that can play more than the grind cycle game that they've used this year. They just don't have the centers for it.
