I think a Barzal trade would basically be something like Wolanin + Duclair + Logan Brown + SJ pick

I wouldn’t do it if I’m Ottawa. Cuz that SJ pick could be someone like Rossi or Perfetti who could be #1 centres

Agreed, but you're also dumping Boychuck and Hickey's contract. Trading Wolanin would mean they're gonna move Pulock, Pelech, Toews, Leddy, Mayfield or send Dobson to Bridgeport. He's too good to be a 7th D, NYI wouldn't need him.

Barzal isn’t getting traded, but tkachuk would have to be coming back to the islanders.

This is a horrible trade for the islanders. There’s no reason to trade barzal.

Hickey is buried in Bridgeport to save 1.25 mill and the islanders can offer other assets to get rid of boychuk contract

If one of the top two picks are included, it would make sense. But don’t know why Ottawa thinks of that when they can have someone on an ELC for 3 years

It wouldn’t make sense for the islanders because it doesn’t make them a better team right now.

You have to give the islanders incentive to trade a 22 YO 1C

If you’re getting Duclair, Logan Brown and the SJ pick that’s a steal. And for a 1/3 of what Barzal would cost. That’s 3 guys that go right into your lineup. You get those 3, cap space and a combined upside that’s double the value of Barzal. I think it’s a win but I wouldn’t do it if I’m Ottawa. That’s bad cap management

Duclair is a middle 6 winger , Logan brown is the senators 8th ranked prospect who will likely be a middle 6 center, and SJ pick won’t contribute significantly for at least 2 years (assuming they have #3-5 overall) .

For the islanders to consider trading barzal, another team would have to give the islanders incentive to make the trade. Quality > quantity and fair value does not get a 22 YO 1C. That’s not how this works.

The islanders want to contend now (next 1-4 years), this does not help them do that.

Would you trade tkachuk for bellows, Wilde , beauvillier and a 2021 1st?

You just gave basically the worst case scenario. I’ll turn it around : Duclair is a 20 goal scorer was our all star pick this year (the guy obvs improved and has a wicked shot and left the drama behind him), Logan Brown has elite vision and 1C upside, just needs to have good wingers, that SJ pick could be one of Rossi or Raymond who are actually maybe 1 year away at max. It’s not that bad.

It’s more like Tkachuk for Wahlstrom, Toews and a top 5 pick. Yes I’d heavily consider that.

Teams that make deep playoff runs have elite 1C. Duclair is a middle 6 winger (tkachuk should have been the all star selection) who’s weak defensively but he skates very well and has a great shot. Logan brown is solid but to think he has 1C potential is extremely optimistic. The only high end trade piece is SJS pick and yeah that pick has elite potential, but barzal is already elite, so why are they doing this trade?? Elite 1C are so hard to find and develop , anything short of an overpay is unrealistic. Fair value does not get you barzal.
