Description
So yeah this is just another Petro to the Leafs Armchair but this one was made with PASSION! I'm telling you it was so hard to not trade Marner through this but I found a way somehow, hopefully this wasn't too OP for the Leafs side of things but who knows.

Quickly to explain the Petro signing, the reason why I think the Leafs can sign him to a lower cap hit than his market value is because of the available money MLSE is able to dial out to players from day 1. For example Tavares was signed to 77 Million dollars and he got 70M of that on the day he signed the contract and will be payed 1 million in salary for the 7 years of his deal to make up that remaining bit. So in a similar way I can see the Leafs being able to use that same money advantage to bring Petro in to a 49 Million contract and pay him 42M on day 1, allowing his money to grow faster.

The rest of it was just trying to fit it all under the cap, I could see Mikheyev's ask being more than just 1 Million but he *is* an RFA which gives the Leafs more control in that situation and his injury cost him a lot a possible asking price

Johnsson and Kapanen were let go because there was really no choice if I wanted to make the Petro signing work. Hopefully the value seems fair to you reading this.

And I think that's about it! Feel free to rate or tell me why this is bull****!

  3. 2022 7th round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Condition on '22 7th:

For each individual 30 goal season either Johnsson or Kapanen have while playing for the Coyotes between the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons, the pick moves up 1 round.

So for example if the players both hit 30 goals in each of the 2 seasons the pick will max out as a 3rd in 2022. However if either player is traded away before the end of 2021-22 the condition no longer applies to the traded player's future totals outside of Arizona.

I doubt pitrangelo signs for that low. The blues in October offered him 8.25 for 7 and he rejected it. Also trading kapenan is a big no. With Muzzin, Rielly, Sandin on the left the main focus will probs be trading for some reasonable RD

What ideas should we consider if not Pietrangelo? Would trading for another RHD be forced to involve Kapanen regardless? Or do you think it would be Kerfy and Johnny

That’s why you try trading Dermott, one of Kerfoot/Johnsson and a pick for the best RHD you can get

What RHD do you think we could trade for while also keeping Kapanen, and assuming we're trading Dermott as a piece of that

Dermott is probably going along with kerfoot and johnsson who gets aquired from those guys will be the interesting part. Will it be savard, manson, Bear, Weegar, Cernak, pesce. The offseason will be interesting for the leafs as Dubas tries to fix that D-core

I understand it can be any team but Arizona couldn't fill a roster now. They can't take on 5+ mil in extra cap.

Trading Holl and moving Muzzin to the right side is a mistake, so is trading Kapanen considering how questionable Toronto's PK is already. Johnsson should be moved this off season

If the leafs trade their 2021 first there are a few big options (pesce, ellis, Deangelo, etc) but we would have to also add some players to remove some cap if they offer (Kerfoot, Dermott) or (johnsson dermott) and no high picks (Weegar, cernak, savard, bear) are probs the options.

johnsson is probs gone in the offseason, either for picks or a prospect who knows. And Dubas knows the pk struggles and is probs planning to fix it in the summer. the good news for that our left side is locked and all we need are 2 reliable RD as Holl can stick with Muzzin.

If you put Hossa on LTIR and subtract Crouse's cap there's actually enough space to make it work out for the Coyotes without them needing to make further moves to stay under the cap

How does this make the Leaf better? Aging Marlie Agostino a 3rd line NHLer? Boedkerr and Clifford in the top 12.? Rosen and Poolman in the top 6?

The Leafs don't need a defensive version of John Tavares

What do you guys think of the chance Petro decides to take less cap for more capital right away just like Tavares? I'm not fully sure but did St Louis offer that same contract structure to him for the rumoured 9.5x7 in St Louis?

Also it's incredibly difficult to find players who would fit under the cap to make the team work and trading Holl for Poolman was part of the cap shaving. Both are are bottom pairing RHD and Poolman had less of a cap and will be UFA at the end of the year, Holl's contract will go on longer which helps Winnipeg not need to look for another D while Toronto will need to get more creative to find another cheap D.

9.27M x 7 for Pietro. He shouldn't get more than Josi, but that's just how it works. So just give him his # and call it a day.

that would be fair but hes probs gettin 9.5+ cause he may be thinking "I can make doughty money" and some teams may be willing to give him it

I don't put him above Josi nevermind Doughty in the year before his contract. Given the amount of teams that could actually splurge on him is reduced because of the lesser increase to the cap, it is more likely he goes with STL than anywhere else.

that could be the case but anything could happen. There are a few teams, that can offer him big so he may explore the ufa market before making his decision. All i can say is this I would sign him short term as no body knows how he will age and with Parayko coming up the team may want to bring in some younger defenseman for the future.
