Toronto Maple Leafs 2020

Initial Creation Date: Mar. 29, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just some moves I would like to see the Leafs make for next season. Really hope they can start the season back up but anytime I watch the news it doesn't look promising. Not sure how this season is going to play out.
Loved the way Spezza played once Babs was gone. Hopefully they can bring him back at the vet minimum. Same with jumbo Joe. I guess he could get more money but with teams limited next year (it will be interesting to see what happens with the cap) he might only get league minimum offers.
I have seen on a couple websites that the Leafs are interested Alexander Barabanov. He is on the smaller size but he reminds me of Nikita Soshnikov. Always wish the Leafs held onto him. Loved his game.
I hope Dubas gives an ELC to Filip Kral and Justin Brazeau. Kral looks awesome and could help make Dermott replaceable one day. He's looked really good in Spokane. I have high hopes for Brazeau, could be the big right winger I'd like to have on this team. Maybe a Josh Anderson or Tom Wilson kind of player.

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Parayko, Colton
  2. Sanford, Zachary
Additional Details:
Gives the Leafs a top RD to play with Morgan Rielly, Sandford adds toughness and some scoring. I like Clifford but not at the expense of the 2 round pick we'd give to LA.
STL
  1. Dermott, Travis [RFA Rights]
  2. Johnsson, Andreas
  3. Liljegren, Timothy
Additional Details:
Gives the Blues a ability to resign Alex Pietrangelo, Dermott gives them someone to replace Jay Bouwmeester (if he retires), Liljegren a cheaper option on the right side. Johnsson extra offence
2.
TOR
  1. Marino, John
Additional Details:
This move only makes sense for Pitt if they resign Justin Schultz. With his history of injuries maybe not, I just really like Marino's game.
PIT
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi
Additional Details:
I can see Pitt trying to move on from a couple of their older players (if they can). Reunites Kasperi with the team that drafted him.
3.
TOR
  1. Acciari, Noel
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Kerfoot can give the Panthers a great utility player and a C to help replace the offence lost by Trocheck. Not saying they are the same player but Florida needs C's.
FLA
  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
I like that Kerfoot can play up and down the lineup and multiple positions but the Leafs really missed Kadri this year. At the time I liked the trade but Leafs need to get tougher in the bottom six. I think Acciari gives us that plus some scoring.

Even if Pittsburgh wanted to resign Schultz, that's no where near enough for Marino.

No way you're getting Parayko for that. It would take at least Nylander. Armstrong probably lets Petro walk before giving up Parayko.

Does it really save the Blues that much money? Or just give us a worse roster. Theres plenty of cap to move before Parayko's name would ever come up.

You are correct. Payayko is a legit top pairing RHD. Which is why the Blues would never let him go for the package you have here. It just does not make sense for them.

Ask yourself this question...

Would you trade Rielly + Engvall to St. Louis for Gunnarsson + Sanford + Mikkola? Because that is basically what you are asking the Blues to do with Parayko.

Offering up a lower pairing LD, a 30 to 40 point winger and a defensive prospect, (because lets face it, that is still what Liljegren is at present), just does not get you Parayko.

The value is just not there for St. Louis.
