Description
i dont make these "trading for superstar" threads that often... almost never... however something about Larkin stands out. He is on that fence of being elite / not. Obviously not having the best team around him is an influence on a down year, but perhaps it's not a down year and more a trend defining him as a general top six guy and not elite. If so, DET should move him when he has the highest value. It might drastically harm their franchise immediately, but strengthens them long term

Not that it will ever happen, but I think the biggest 'superstar centre to MTL' trade that actually makes sense is Logan Couture. It is kind of a hot take and would require a few things (SJ to re-tool, MTL to actually use their cap space and wealth to do something productive, GM's not being a bunch of scared babies, etc) but I honestly think tere is something there that could make sense for both teams. It also helps that I have little respect for Bergevin and think he would bite on Vlasic in some form or another (which is why SJ moves Couture in this made up fantasy land).

Bergevin realizes what he's doing and quickly reverts the trade, Kotkaniemi and Domi in a package deal could easily bring in Mantha and Svechnikov easily, yes they'll have to put in a 1st or a 2nd so Detroit easily accepts, but you'll just be highly overpaying basically only for Larkin, I don't think Cholowski will even crack the habs team unless there are multiple injuries in a season and for long term

Is that a need though? I don't care what MTL fans tell me, Danault isn't a 1C. MTL keeps surrounding average centers with good wingers and hope to get somewhere, when all the best / cup winning teams have a solid 1-2 center combination.

I don't hate it, Sounds like Cholowski is probably done in Detroit, If we were to land one of Byfield/Stutzle i'd possibly consider it. Domi is pretty much Mantha caliber. What's Mete's ceiling? Picks should be decent enough. Tough for Larkin i'd probably want Montreals 2020 1st rounder #8 overall included.

I'm with you on that bud, I myself don't care for the habs, or any of the fans thoughts, but I just saw that you'd trade 2 good 2nd line centers, a 1st and Mete for Larkin, that's a huge overpayment and would be just as bad as the Hall/Larsson trade, maybe even worse

If the Habs are obsessed about being a playoff team next year and are willing to do whatever it takes, than by all means.......

If they just realize they have their potential #1 center already and just be patient, they won't have to make this trade.

Honestly, I would rather offer sheet Barzal at four 1st round picks than make this trade above....... Not because Larkin isn't good or anything, He's great but this reeks of desperation and wanting instant success to make Price and Weber happy.

That trade is terrible, Sure Larkin is a good player but Domi has as many 70 point seasons as he does and you want us to give a young centre who has a lot of potential, a solid 3rd pairing D who has potential to become a top 6 over time. Not to mention a first second and third. This is just bad. Bergevin might not want to admit it but he knows he just needs to be patient. If Larkin is so good then he should be a consistent 80 - 90 point player to command that kind of price.
