Zadorov and Girard is needed far more than Cole is needed for left d, I'd give up Cole rather than Zadorov even if it would bring in more OR less for the trade, or cap space, Byram and Timmons can also bring in more help when it comes to defense in every way

I'd probably do that if I'm Ottawa. Not really sure how much Jost is going to grow at this point, but he's 22 and he's an NHL player so why not take a shot. If he proves himself worth keeping, great! If not it only cost Chris Tierney, who didn't factor in long term and wasn't likely to get you a huge return anyway.

Yeah compher plays all over.. I'm not sure why you want to add tierney to the avs so much, I just dont really see a fit, hes not much of an upgrade over compher and the avs already traded soderberg because he was to expensive to play on the 3rd line.. I can forsee a nish-compher-kaut\donskoi line next year

Soderberg is also significantly older. Tierney appears to be a consistent 40 point guy on a 3rd line role, and he is/will be cheaper than Soderberg too. It's more that this move gives the avs more flexibility with their wingers upon locking the centers to their specific roles.

1, 2, 4th line centers are locked in, I doubt that bringing in Tierney to play 3c when compher and jost are both capable of it, as well as bowers getting a shot.. does them much good, it's going to be hard enough to fit all the forwards they have into the top 12 next year without adding another permanent spot

Compher plays a lot of C, him and Kadri are almost identical numbers for draw attempts (granted less games for Kadri)
He plays C more than Wing,

then there is Alex Newhook, 1 more year in the NCAA and he will be slotted in as the 3C, thats his position and you dont mess with him goign to the wing

Tierney is just such an unnecessary move, they have more options than they can handle with their current roster to be the 3C, even if they res-signed Namestnikov, he has played C in Tampa and they could move him back to that spot.

If they want to strengthen that spot, really upgrade it and sign Erik Haula in UFA. The Tierney trade makes no sense, especially straight up for Jost.
