Lol why would you sign Gudas when you have Cernak and Jones. I rather have Holl at a cheaper price than Gudas

Columbus keeps Jones. Teams don’t trade their best player. Jones is Columbus best player and the face of the franchise. The value around the league might be even, but the value that Jones has to Columbus makes him 100% untouchable.

It’s like asking Toronto to trade Matthews or Pittsburgh to trade Crosby or why the islanders and lightning didn’t trade Tavares or Stamkos. You don’t trade your best player and face of the franchise. Can we please stop with the Jones trades it’s not going to happen. Just like Toronto is going to trade Matthews or Marner, it’s not happening.

I absolutely understand your argument, I do however disagree with your assessment of Jones. Jones is not in the same category as Crosby, Stamkos,Matthews, Tavares. He is today the face of the franchise if for any reason a trade involving Marner for Jones were to happen then Marner or at the very least PLD would become the face of the franchise.

You’re right he isn’t that same as those players to the league... he’s the same as those players to his team. If Pittsburgh moves Crosby, Malkin is the face of the franchise. Toronto’s move Matthews Tavares or Marner is the face. You can say that for every team.... that being said those players still don’t get traded very often.

I don’t think they do. They wanted to keep the face of the franchise and lost him to his hometown. You can literally say that for any team who loses a free agent.

Are you going to trade Matthews when he’s about to be a UFA?

If I don't have him signed on July 1st the year before he hits FA I certainly listen to offers

Dubas will try to sign matthews before the trade deadline of the final year of his contract. If he does not sign sure I could see him getting traded. By the time his contract is up who knows how the leafs will look like. A 1st round pick and some prospects could be worth it for the long term bennefit of the leafs. If he leaves for say Arizona people will be asking why did we not learn from the tavares scenario. besides leafs may let him go and try to lure mcdavid over to play for his home team. u never know what Mcdavids intentions are as he may want to come play for Toronto if he does not get a cup with the oilers. The future is often mysterious and nobody knows what will happen by 2025 so we can only wait and see.

CBJ has 2 seasons left their "Franchise player" under contract after that he's a FA free to sign anywhere he wants and there will be 32 teams sending offers to his agent and about 50% of those teams will be able to put together a bonus ladened deal that will make CBJ gulp and about 10 teams will be able to put together an offer that takes CBJ out of the running unless of course Jones really really really likes it there. Not being a prick or anything but these are just some realities CBJ will face when it comes to signing their franchise player

who are all these teams that will have cap space to sign him? Its very rare that long term franchise players make it to free agency and even rarer that they leave.

Columbus will have an entire year of negotiating rights taht other teams dont.

All 32 teams will have around the 10 million needed to put in a reasonable offer at that time
