9 Million. Hold the front door.

Makar is a good player and all but 9 million good as an RFA? You are basing this after like 1/2 a season?
Slow that wagon down.

Look up all time rookie defensemen to eclipse 50pts; I think you might change your mind...

Also, he'll probably follow up his rookie season with a better 2nd year. At that time, he'll have earned at least $9M, just like Mikko did.

actually the odds are greater that he will slump between his 1st and 2nd year.
By your assumption he'd get 4 million more than Werenski got.
He's not 4 million better than Werenski.

Werenski is a fine player, but he's no Cale Makar, lol. Makar could literally skates circles around him.

you are judging this off 1/2 a season. Just wait.
And no, he's not 4 million better than Zack, especially on an RFA deal. Don't get me wrong if he got 6-7 I wouldn't be surprised. But 9 is a lot for a RFA.
It's not like you got Dubas there in COL ready to get run rugshot by the kids.

Chabot got $7.5M < Makar.

Let's see how well these responses age.

Look at Chabots contract, that’s the price is business for this level of dman coming off their elc.

I really don’t think you comprehend what record setting stuff he has done since day 1 entering the league which includes last years playoffs

He’s no fluke

Chabot had 2 seasons under his belt.
Like I said, you are saying this basically after a half a season.
Most players dip their 2nd year. They are no longer surprising the league and there is enough tape on them for other players to learn their tenancies.
It's way to early to hand this dude 9 million.

Be prepared to be upset when both him and Quinn Hughes sign matching contracts

why would I be upset. It's not like it's 9 million out of my pocket
I think you are kidding yourself though. There is no track record or history here. His pay will be mainly based on how he performs next year not this year.

you seem to care a lot about what another team would do signing their own star player for market value, you have no skin in this game and yet here you are still arguing about it]
If you have such an opinion about it now, you clearly dont dont like the concept of that contract

If you didnt care you wouldnt be arguing about it with avs fans

makar is kinda a gamble after only playing 2/3 of a season, and honestly right now i would not put him at 9 mil but if he repeats this season and does really good in the playoff i would put him down for 9 mil

I post on the site because like a lot of people here I like hockey. That doesn't mean I'm going to be "upset" on someone's contract. That's just ignorance.

And as far as hockey is concerned paying a player who has like 1/2 a year under his belt 9 million is not good hockey sense.
There is no team out there that would hand a guy who had a 1/2 a year under him that much money.

As I said before. What he gets on his next deal has a lot more with how he performs next year than it does this year.

He has already produced in the playoffs. That $9M is over 8 years. In 3yrs (the length of a typical bridge) $9M aav will be a bargain. He’s the 2nd most important player on this team now.
