Toronto deep dive - MARNER INVOLVED IN TRADE TO FIX 6IX WOES

Created by: Falbert_Dong
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 1, 2020
Published: Apr. 1, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Dahlin, Rasmus
  2. 2021 1st round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
Eichel honestly can't do it all himself. Great player but just not that level of player to be able to generate offence on his own. Marner will make him hit his potential easily and will get 80+ points on a year to year basis. Adds the 1st as a sweetener because Marner is all world passer and they need the sweetener to lure him from Toronto
BUF
  1. Marner, Mitchell
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Yeah, i know its hard. Home town boy might be able to get a different package for a more established defenceman but Dahlin has pretty good potential. Has shown flashes but not quite 1st overall material. Might have been a mistake to draft him 10A but the leafs take a chance as they have defensive woes. Hopefully Dahlin fixes his defensive play because its a little shaky but definitely room for improvement.
2.
TOR
  1. Bennett, Sam
Additional Details:
Nice 4th line player from hometown. Might be overpayment for a 4th liner but he can occasionally fill in on the 3rd line. Offence is decent but below average but has a nice grinding game
CGY
  1. Barrie, Tyson
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (TOR)
  3. 2020 4th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Leafs dont need Barrie once they trade for Dahlin. Barrie currently a better OFD than Dahlin, but whatever. Calgary needs a nice RHD OFD.
3.
NSH
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (TOR)
4.
TOR
  1. 2020 6th round pick (STL)
5.
TOR
  1. Dahlén, Jonathan
Additional Details:
Helps his brother adjust to Toronto life
SJS
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (TOR)
6.
TOR
  1. Fedun, Taylor
Additional Details:
great stay at home defenceman with potential to hit 10-15 points on a year to year basis. Sort of like Hal Gill
DAL
  1. 2020 6th round pick (CAR)
7.
TOR
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse [Reserve List]
Additional Details:
clearly this guy wants out. Has enough skill to stick in the NHL but just needs to step away from EDM hell hole. I feel for the guy and his skill is more suited to play with a Matthews type player rather than Mcdavid anyways.
EDM
  1. 2022 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Most likely an overpayment for an underachiever, but he should be able to lure Laine from WPG eventually and we can finally stop those Matthews v Laine debates

If it's Marner for Dahlin you're trying to pull off, it's toronto that needs to add, not Buffalo

Dahlin has shown flashes - pound for pound straight up today Marner is probably the better player over the next few years Dahlin will be the better player. If Botts did this he'd be gone before the ink dried all that aside Marner in Buffalo top 6 does solve a lot of offensive issues but Dahlin in TO (another left shot Dman) doesn't solve their Defensive woes

For a team that doesn’t have very good dman I’m not sure how you wouldn’t need him lmao

Reinhart is a 2nd overall pick. He’s no Mitch but he hasn’t had the opportunity to play without tavares either, has he? Also, I think Dahlin has a way higher ceiling than Mitch, like not even close.

Here's the top five:

Phil Housley - 132 (141 GP)
Rasmus Dahlin - 84 (141 GP)
Ray Bourque - 79 (101 GP)
Rick Hampton - 76 (151 GP)
Bobby Orr - 72 (103 GP)

He is worth more than Marner.

Buffalo (or most teams) don't have cap to take on 10m cap difference. Kinda ridiculous to be trading UFA Barrie and Ceci,. The season's over.
