Konecny probably has more value than Marner cuz he's on a team friendly deal. Leafs need to add.

The thing is Konecny only has 1 good season where he has shown this level of production. Marner has multiple.

If Philly can get rid of 1 of JVR/Voracek, they should take this and run

I don't doubt that Marner is the far better player, but you're getting 5 million dollars in cap relief. Usually, you have to compensate for that.

No you don't have to compensate for that, Nylander is at 7 million, Tkchuck is at 7 million , Point is at 7 million. Marner > Nylander, Marner > Tkchuck, Point > Marner. All three >> than Konecny

What about Marner + Dermott RFA rights for Konecny + Gostisbehere? Would still clear cap for Toronto, but I guess Philly would be getting both of the more desirable pieces unles TOR thinks Gostisbehere can return to form.

Gostisbehere isn't the type of D man that Toronto needs. We need right handed defensive defencemen. Gostisbehere is a left handed offensive defenceman.

Maybe if the Flyers threw in a 1st or if Toronto could make it a 3 way trade and flip Gostisbehere but the whole point of this trade is to make cap space for Tanev signing while keeping forward depth.

Let me put together a Marner to PHI trade that makes more sense to both teams.

Niskanen seems like he could be a good target to include for Toronto

Thanks for letting me know. He can be a first pairing guy.

So we just give up on Konecny just because we're getting a better player with less value? Yes, he has less value because of his contract.

No it's not. Marner is on pace for 93 points and Konecny is on pace for 76 points. Konecny is a better goal scorer and has better advanced stats for this year. I'm not paying almost $5.5M for a 17 point differential lmao

Probably not. Dermott would be on our third pairing, just like Gostisbehere for when he plays. There is probably a team out there that can have Ghost crack the second pairing, and definitely for Dermott. However, it will only open a little bit of cap space and it definitely won't compensate for the Marner and Konecny swap.

He's still a steady 1st pairing guy for this year and probably next year. Niskanen has been underrated this year.

You're saying no for the Leafs right? Cause those two downgrades aren't worth 2.9M in cap space.

Niskanen would be a better fit than Gostisbehere

Konecky just had a pro rated 73 point season . Great value at 5.5m. Even a 60 point player at 5.5m is good value. IMO Flyers keep Konecky and then have 5.4m to spend on another player instead of just one Marner

I was saying no for Flyers, but yeah Leafs say no too.

Niskanen would be a better fit, but what I meant was that we're not trading him.

If the Leafs are hypothetically trading one of the Big 4 then I would hope it was Tavares waiving his NMC and not moving Matthews, Marner or Nylander.

Problem is the Flyers don't need Tavares at Center as they were fantastic last year.

Columbus needs a #1 Center badly after getting hammered in the face off dot this year. In fact only Jenner was over 50% and he only chipped in a measely 11 goals. Tavares is an elite #1 center and would allow Dubois to excel in a sheltered 2nd line and Jenner as a checking 3rd. I would look to go after Seth Jones and Josh Anderson...and I should probably be typing this in a Columbus thread with the Leafs.

Have no idea how you can think Leafs would be willing to trade Marner for Konecny or a potential 100 point player for a maybe 60 point player.

If Marner was making 9 million, then there’s not a chance the Leafs do this trade. But they need cap space.

The Leafs have lots of options to free up capspace and Marner is not what they are going do. Do you think the Hawks would trade Toews or Kane because they need capspace.

No but Marner would be their best option to move cuz he frees up the most cap & will land them the best return.

Yes I am a huge Marner fan, but I admit that he’s going to be the most likely candidate to get moved.

Sorry you feel that way and wish you were more of a believer in Marner and would appreciate his special skills instead of always taking shots at his game.

Nothing wrong with his game, he's a great player. But his contract sucks. If he signed for 9.25 nobody would be wanting to move him and the Leafs would have enough cap space but that extra 2 million hurts.
