81M cap and using cheap UFAs to fill the gaps

Created by: Spider11

Initial Creation Date: Mar. 31, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Somehow when I originally posted this all the focus was on the CBO idea when my intention was to get some comments on UFA's as an option, so lets try again.Using some cheap UFA signings to fill out the roster.Kerfoot can slide into the 3C slot if Joe needs a break. Spezza renews his role as the 4C with Barabanov as another speedy winger. Shattenkirk IMO seems to be similar to Barrie with a little less offence and better defense. Still able to quarterback the second PP unit. Reilly and Barrie had impressive number when paired together so hopefully Shattenkirk can fill the same role.

If offered that New Jersey deal, Toronto should take it even if they have to sweeten it substantially -- I would give up any combination of 2 of the 9 lower picks with the exception of both fourths.

Why wouldn't Jersey just CBO Subban, am I missing something here?

Maybe New Jersey would use their own CBO on someone like Schneider? Then they're getting rid of two large contracts that they don't want instead of one. Just guessing...

For the cost of a top 15 pick and a decent chance at getting first overall with their 2 picks. They would be crazy to do that. Absolutely crazy

Jersey does not have cap issues and will get even more cap space when they buyout Schneider.

Subban's deal is up in one year no need to to to trade him when they could trade him next year at deadline and get aomething.
