Asking price for Meier

Created by: OutCold13
Team: 2020-21 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 1, 2020
Published: Apr. 1, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This assumes each team gets 1 compliance buyout, and that the cap goes down.

This offer may be a little weak, but would allow the Sharks to dump Jones and use their compliance buyout on M-E Vlasic.

Let me know what would you adjust?

I realize Sharks probably don't want to move Meier, but if they clear his contract they have room to make a run at Hall.

You’re gonna have to give up more to get him. Taking on jones isn’t much of an incentive to SJ if a CBO is in place.

Fair enough in just wondering what a trade for him would look like.

      Probably a high 1st (5th-10th), Middle 6th forward, and B+ prospect.

That's way too much for Meier, he only has 3 years left on his contract (overpayment) and a ridiculous qualifying offer. The 5th overall pick alone would be worth more than Meier.

They can get Minnestoa's 1st (11th overall) plus Donato.

Not even close. Starts with your best prospect and a top 15 first. And no we arent using him to dump Jones so forget that negated value

It shouldn't be an overpayment. But it should be a decent package

Why would it not be an overpayement? Hes the youngest part of the sharks core and a huge part of our future. We have zero incentive to trade for anything under top dollar. Imagine they asked you for Nylander

Nylander is much better than Meier.

Well Meier only had ten less points and has more dimensions to his game, so take that off whatever you would trade for Nylander and thats it. Not half baked prospect, cap dump and a late first

Its likely the 11th pick. The other part of this deal would be the cap space Sharks could clear for a run at Hall. Sharks look to be in a weird spot. Either gotta come up big or it's time to rebuild.

if you want the sharks to part with Meier that's going to be the priced. Meier being over-payed is an absolute joke, he scored 30 goals last year as a 22 year old, this year is different (more of a team thing if you have watched him play), but still was 2nd on the team. if Minnesota offers that, Sharks laugh and hang up the phone. Sharks are not interested in trading him, if any team wants him, that's the price.

YES of course if a team offers up a 5th-9th pick, then the prospect will be much less valuable, but there is no chance the sharks are trading Meier away unless it brings back significant futures.

He got paid for last years performance and then he took a step backwards. Nylander's got 9 more goals than him in less games and is only getting 1M more. I'd trade Nylander for the 4th overall pick straight up maybe a lower pick if Drysdale was still available.

Did you forget that Meier himself was a 9th overall pick? Plus this draft is especially deep.

If a team offers a top 10 pick then you aren't also getting a middle 6 forward and a B+ prospect.

If you want the middle 6 forward and the B+ prospect the pick will be in the late teens (15-19).

If you're okay just getting the pick I could see a team potentially trading a top 10 pick (although I'm not sure which team would want to make the trade (maybe New Jersey?)) but that's all your getting not 2 more big pieces on top of that.

No way the Sharks give up on Meier. Meier and Hertl and probably the last two roster players the Sharks would consider to give up.
If he gets traded, it starts with at least Matt Boldy or 2020 1st round pick (if it's not in the top 3 since Meier alone is not worth a top 3 pick)

You're right. There's no way the Sharks give up on Meier for what other teams would be willing to offer. I don't see any of the teams in the top 10 draft picks other than New Jersey that might be interested.

I agree Wild would still need to address the center position. I'm just trying to get creative on moving Zuccarello and possibly acquiring a asset.
I saw a sharks fan post a trade where they trade jones and a 2nd and 5th in a cap compliance trade. We all know no owner will green light a deal that costs them nearly 30 million for a 2nd and a 5th. I thought if we could acquire Meier and dump Zuccarello while doing it, it could be worth it.
As usual I get a little carried away.

You can keep Jones if you want? Most Sharks fans would look at it as the Wild doing Sharks a favor.

It clearly lowers the value of meier by a good amount, and we would need more than full value on him
