If NJD lotteries to top 3

Description
If the Devils lottery jump into the top 3, would they consider dealing Hischier?

Seems like they could get a decent haul. Not sure what I have is fair, but I guess my reasoning is they'd replace their aging Subban for Dumba, who is arguably better (not better than Subban at his peak, but better than Subban now) and is younger and cheaper with more term. Then they would also be getting a middle-6 sizable winger in Greenway who is still young and a potential top-line winger in Boldy along with a couple draft picks, which those could be adjusted to better even things out. Setting up to pair Hughes with his U.S. National U18 teammate in Boldy could be a good move down the road.

As someone who is looking at this impartially (Stars Fan), this deal looks extremely intriguing. If I'm NJ, I push for one of the 2020 1st Round Picks that MIN has, but overall this is a deal that would be hard to turn down from the Devils perspective.

I'm sorry dude but the Devils ain't dealing Hischier even if we'd get to pick No. 1 again. And especially not for that package.

your getting a better dman in Dumba and losing the salary of Subban....

Not to mention Boldy is a good prospect

Would we be interested in Dumba? Sure, but not if Hischier is the asking price.

Subban's salary stinks, I know. But since we're not spending anywhere near the cap it's not much of a problem for us.

We're not looking for high priced talent that can help us right now (like Dumba would be). We're trying to build a contender around Hughes & Hischier and are interested in players that can help us in that timeline.

According to Devils' brass, Hischier is one of the untouchables.

Subban's salary isn't an issue for us whatsoever. We can easily afford the remainder of his contract despite his poor first season with us.

I would say, however, that if we retained 50% of Subban's salary and that 2021 2nd round pick became a 2021 1st that I would be extremely intrigued by this potential deal.

Nice to see a trade that has been well thought out instead of 99% of the garbage some of these people post.

Devils are in a rebuild right now. Hischier turned 21 in January and Dumba turns 26 in July. You don't trade your younger guys for older ones. Hischier is probably having a down year this season and and he's still young. He's going to grow into a better player as he develops and as the Devils get better. Also, the Devils don't need to dump Subban if they're not desperate of that extra cap space.

Boldy, Greenway, and the picks are nice, but they won't get you to Hischier.

I like this trade a lot actually. Another idea would be to trade for the pick. They likely wouldn't move it if it's first overall but maybe if it's second or third... Byfield or Stutzle would be perfect for us.

There's no way we would trade a lottery winning pick. I don't think the Wild would have what we are looking for with the return being a top 3 pick.

Never say never. Lottery picks have been traded before. Even the first overall pick has been traded before. Whether we'd have what it takes is a different question, but if Fitzgerald likes what he's being offered for #2/#3 overall, I don't see why he'd flat out reject every trade proposal.

I understand that...but what would you propose the Wild ship to us for either the #2 or #3 overall?

I didn't necessarily have an offer in mind, I was more just commenting on the preface of this post: that if NJD wins a top 3 pick and moves a high caliber player/asset, I'd rather trade for the pick than Hughes/Hischier. I'd imagine the cost would be something like our 11th overall pick, Dumba or Brodin with an extension, and maybe a solid prospect for #2/#3 and Subban, and maybe NJD throws in a mediocre prospect. Just spit balling, but something like that
