Because they move up and Smith takes the place of a younger player who they can keep in the AHL.

The d-core is too defensive. Keith at 37 will maybe put up 25 pts, but it's not that good and Boqvist isn't ready to play like 26 minutes per game. In a few years yes, but not now

He only has one year on his contract and they are rebuilding so why wouldn't they take a veteran for legit nothing.

I guess they are really defensive but its fine because the forwards are super offensive. Also Boqvist doesn't have to play as much because I went to get Dillon who is a solid defensemen who could potentially play big minutes.

I mean that's a fair point, but teams that don't have a d-core that can move the puck struggle big time... look at MTL since Markov started to drop (of course the issue became even more important when he left MTL)

They aren't going to help you for free. That's like saying Boston is gonna take Loui Eriksson because they have a free buyout. Makes no sense
