Bob had a mediocre regular season last year too but was once again a monster in the playoffs for Columbus. No way does Tallon give up on Bob this fast

I honestly think people thought bob was going to be this amazing goalie that could help any team, but honestly I think his good numbers came with being on a team with a good defense structure as was the case when he played in Columbus. Columbus in general has statistically a way better Dcore than Florida (no offense). So unless florida buffs its defense to be similar to columbus or any good defensive team, this coming offseason which I cannot see happening as they need to shed 10mill according to their ownership, his numbers may never be above mediocre. Or he could bounce back who knows

but still
2.58 0.913 (Columbus Final Year)
3.23 0.900 (Florida First Year)

I get that moving him does shed 10M but then who do you have replace him? Knight is far from NHL ready and Driedger hasn't proven himself enough yet.

If you're buying out someone for like 60 million dollars they're paying you a boatload.

It's more like marners used jockstrap for Bobrovsky (to be bought out) and a couple firsts.

Leafs have so much cash. Money isn’t an issue. But Florida fans don’t want a bob buyout so just take it out

I guess I just really don’t see why on earth Toronto does this? Honestly, not sure I get it from Florida’s side either. They wanted Bob last year, not sure they’re willing to give up after one year, but I REALLY don’t see it from Toronto’s side.

They’re giving up dermott and johnsson for a 3rd, Weeger, and the rights to pay 45ish million dollars? Is Weeger the next Lidstrom and I missed it?

Yeah just remove Bob from it. Florida won’t give up on him that quick. Weeger is a very underrated RHD. He’s capable of playing top pairing. He’d fit nice in Toronto

You are talking about almost an entire payroll for a year. The Leafs can afford it but they wouldn't do it for free. They'd have to be paid, a lot

He's capable of playing top pairing, but is currently on the third pairing of a team below the Leafs in the standings... Not sure I agree with that

He plays the 3rd most minutes on Florida panthers as a D. He’d be a great fit on the leafs. He averages over 20 mins a game

I am not saying replace him cause honestly this off season wont have many choices who are any better (murray, holtby, etc). But rn signing him for 10million seemes to have been a mistake. This is why the NHL should set up guidlines when it comes to signing goalies as goalies who sign for 10million often do not perform well. Sure there are only 2 rn but who knows how long that's gonna last. The panthers should keep him and hopefully he improves otherwise they could trade him but they would have to retain salary as I am sure other teams could be interested in him.

because I took constructive criticism from this site, saw that people made valid points, and changed my mind on the Bob part of the deal. isn't that the whole point of this site?

Not trying to be negative at you but...the goalies you named (Holtby and Murray) have multiple series wins and a Stanley Cup. At this point, I'd give one of these guys 8 million for a shot at being a real contender vs paying Bob 10 million only to be behind the Leafs in the standings.

Yeah...call me crazy but I'd rather put my money on a guy who has won and shown an ability to compete at high levels.

I mean yeah those guys have been good but rn both are not playing well holtby is gaa 3.11 sv 0.897 and Murray is gaa 2.87 sv 0.897. but those 2 could bounce back. the main thing is Florida needs to work on their defense as sure they can trade bobrosky and bring in a goalie who has won a cup but will that increase their defense numbers no. That goalie can-do his best but due to the lack of defense his numbers will drop

No, I’m saying after your adjustments, it goes too far in favor of toronto. Why would florida do that without the added incentive of getting out from a contract?

Well Florida has a lot of D men, and if they lose Hoffman/Dadonov, they’re gonna have holes up front in their top 6. Johnnson could slide in their 2nd line LW to replace Hoffman, and dermott is a guy whose still a solid NHLer whose shown flashes he can be a top 4 guy. He could slide into the top pairing with Ekblad and see how he does. Maybe Toronto adds a pick or prospect but that’s a good base

They don't need roles. If teams want to be stupid they'll suffer. No need to protect them from themselves
