I agree add Nylander instead of J.T. and use the 4 million saved to build a 23 team roster.

Hyman-McCann-Kap
Mik-Blueger-Simon

That’s an interesting take actually cuz a week ago, I made a “who’s better” player discussion & one of the comparisons was between Marner & Guentzel. The majority of people who participated said Marner was better, which surprised me a bit. Based on this season’s performance, I think Guentzel was significantly better, however, I think they are actually very close overall. Jake probably has the edge due to his playoff performances. I’d expect Marner to have the higher ceiling though.

Who’d you guys think is better?

If I had to pick one to send out on the ice, I'd pick Marner. But, if making a team with the cap, Guentzel without pause.

Gotta go with JG for multiple reasons. 1) Cap cost 2) Team player (see cap cost) 3) Hockey sense, he has that knack to be where the puck is gonna be (see Gretzky, Mario, Bure etc) Not saying he's gonna be on their level but he has that mojo. You can't go wrong with either considering their PPG but to me it's hands down JG.

I absolutely despise Toronto, so this is like mixing oil and water with CF being the emulsifier. (blame my chemistry teacher) I just dislike AM. And who coaches this team? Under Sully some of these tor. guys wouldn't fit because they're not responsible defensively. Anders Frederickson is overrated. As a diehard pens fan, it's hard to mix my team with one I dislike, but my lines would be:
Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
Malkin-Tavares-Marner
Zucker-McCann-kappanen
Aston-Reese-Blueger-Tanev

Dumoulin-Letang
Reilly-Marino
Muzzin-Holl

David Ayers(Zamboni Goalie)
Murray

That's over cap, IK, but it's a fake team so cap really doesn't matter.

It’s been 29,332 days since the leafs won the cup. BTW There were 6 teams in the NHL when that happened. It has been 42 days since the leafs got beat by an AHL zamboni driver.

Yeah I agree. Jake thinks the game similarly to Gretzky & his work off the puck is tremendous, that’s why both centers he plays alongside work very well with him. Jake took a discount to win with his team like MacKinnon. He could’ve easily got 10-12 million.

I love Guentzel as much as anyone but I wouldn’t make a Gretzky comparison...Jake wouldn’t get anywhere close to 10 mil unless he was a UFA at 28 with 4 40-goal seasons under his belt. He did take a discount though. I wish we could clone him.

I think Kevin Fiala of Minnesota plays the game a lot like Jake Guentzel. He seems to be more flashy but he's smart in a similar way.

I was lobbying for fiala earlier in the season when he was stinking...then he was one of the hottest players in the NHL and I said I told you so...lol

Marner is good not because he is a star himself but because he complements stars really well. Matthews going for 60 goals this season and Tavares having his career best when Marner was his linemate. He also made Kadri look dazzling.

Yes I agree Kadri & Marner were unreal together during their short period. That doesn’t get talked about enough.

I say Marner is better. Jake is definitely a better goal scorer than Marner but Marner is a player that can run a line by himself with his playmaking ability. Also he's fantastic on defense

That’s a fair point. Marner is definitely very good in possession.
