Stars 2021 Cup Champs

Team: 2020-21 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 4, 2020
Published: Apr. 5, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I saw a few Dallas teams kicking around, so I just decided to take a crack at it for fun. Assuming no CBO.

Ripping off @Wqrrior on the Johns trade

I think Dallas makes sense as a team to OS Cirelli. They need scoring and he brings that, as well a great defensive game, which is Dallas' style. I did 3 years on the OS because I think it's more tempting. He makes what he is worth right now, but gets to resign again in a few years when the cap is up.

Get an upgrade from Dickinson to Johnsson at the cost of Honka, who has requested a trade.

Gudas is a signing that I think works well for them. He's solid defensively and a bit underrated on the offensive side.

I'm not sure what Dallas runs their lines as, so don't get too worked up over combinations.

I think Dallas would be smart to OS Cirelli I think they just might need to offer a little more to make it unbearable for Tampa to match.

That's a lot to give up for 3 years of Cirelli. I think they should shoot for 5 or 6 years at 7M. Compinsasion is the same.

Not Gudas is a guy you want in your top 4. Great 3rd pairing guy, but if you look at the Caps they struggle with defense bad and he was on the right side of Orlov. Maybe a guy like Mayfield would be a better option.

I agree that that's a lot, but I think that's the point. Offer sheets don't occur very often, and even less often does a player sign them. I tried to make it so Cirelli would sign and Tampa wouldn't match. The 3 years allows him to get even more money once the cap goes up. I also believe he would still be an RFA after this, so it is likely that they keep him afterwards, just at a higher cost. If they could get him at 5 or 6 years at $7m, then great. I just think he'd be more likely to sign this.

I think Gudas would be fine. He struggled this year but has a good track record. The stars also play a great defensive system as a team which makes it difficult for one guy to come in and cause problems with it. They also don't have to give up any assets for him besides money which is not the case with Mayfield.

Two reasons why this won't work.

1) expansion draft. We'll be losing either Faksa or Johnsson for free which isn't good

2) almost impossible to re-sign Heiskanen now. Pretty much no money left long-term.

I'm personally against that TOR trade. I like Dickinson more than Johnsson.

Every team is going to lose somebody. They can make corresponding moves to prepare for the expansion draft.

With Heiskanen, again, they can make corresponding moves. There will be plenty of options to resign him. They can go bridge deal or use the money that will be taken off their hands in the expansion draft.

Both of these problems are easily solved.

I know all teams are going to lose someone, but I don't see it being effective team building to lose assets in order to gain an asset you're going to lose. In the end we'd just be the losers there.

I'd personally view a Chabot like deal being the best option regarding Heiskanen. He's probably our best player now, so I'd ink him now with maximum length, no matter the cost.
