for who? JT for SJ 1 for 1 is a steal for Toronto, muzzin added makes it way more tempting, and we also shouldn't pay 5.6M to have him play on the 3rd pair when sanding starts to out play that role. Maybe get another pick back but no more than that

He could probably get 5 but (a) he's a hometown boy who clearly doesn't want to play anywhere else and would likely take a cut and (b) the argument for not making 5-6 mil would be whether or not he would produce nearly as much if he wasn't playing with Matthews/Marner/Nylander/Tavares every night.

Actually out of all the leafs he may be the one to take a team friendly deal. That original deal in itself was amazing and if he signs a similar one 3.85 for 4 years than he will be prasied.

Hyman gets traded if he asks for the kind of money this AGM has him signed for. He's absolutely being zoomed by Toronto's skilled players and will be 29 by the time he needs a new deal. He might peak at $10M over 3 years on his next deal.

for 4.5 no way he gets traded. His value to this team is more than outsiders know. Agreed that his numbers are inflated by the leafs top players, but he also makes it so much easier for them, creates space, gets the puck, and makes traffic in front. Also has developed enough of a game to actually make some nice offensive plays himself and convert most chances that are given to him. There's a reason why all the best players on the team want to play with him. Also very good at tipping. Was on pace for like 36g over an 82 game season, which would regularly command a lot more than what I gave him, but granted that he does play with Matthews and Marner, I think both sides walk away happy with this deal

You are extremely overvaluing Jones and Anderson

For what the Leafs have available for spare cash, there does not exist any realistic scenario where Hyman can come in higher than the $3.33M I've identified. The PK aspect of Hyman's game and the intangibles he does can be done by other players that could actually produce away from the skilled players and have a positive effect on the penalty kill. He's by trade a third line winger that's being zoomed to near 30-goal totals. You don't pay $4.5M for a third line winger period.

well we'll agree to disagree. He wouldn't be as bad as you think playing without the top guys, but never has had to prove it because he's earned a spot in the top 6 every single year (for a reason) on one of the best offensive teams.

Well, for me, he's worth 5-6 million. He is very similar to Hornqvist but plays a better defensive game. Think about it, Marner didn't take a discount, Hyman probably won't either. Although Marner probably would have if his dad wasn't so narcissistic.

This is also the same guy who thinks Holl> Jones..... he loves his advanced stats and looks at players blind as in you can’t trust your eyes.

Jones has put up numbers comparable to a below average #2 but hes more of a #3 imo. Not someone you would trade Tavares for

You can’t just blindly follow stats and analytics either. You need a mix of both to be successful.

on behalf of non-ridiculous leafs fans, Jones is a bonafide #1, among the best defensemen in the league

combo of eye test, stats, how well he played in last year's playoffs, etc. Also on a steal of a contract which bring up his value a fair bit. He's at least on par with Rielly, if not better

His stats are on par with a fringe #2 defenseman on most teams, probably worse but at the very best hes a slightly below average 2
