Need to add another 4 first round picks to the trade to even have the Leafs consider the deal.

I'm guessing you guys missed seeing the year. Any trade of Matthews would be near the end of his contract and the Leafs management get a fear that he'll J.T. the Leafs and walk away leafing the Leafs with nothing but 1st Rd exist memories.

again, not for that he doesnt
1- we have no idea what those players will look like at that time (they dont project to be anything super special as of now) and that 1st rounder could be the 31st over all in a super weak draft
2-in the year you are talking about, Matthews will still be 2 years away from free agency and smack dab in the middle of his scoring prime, most likely at his highest trade value.
3-anyone who is affraid of Matthews "pulling a tavares" has literally no historical need to worry about that happening because it simply doesnt happen very often. Tavares was the outlier

1 - Players with more seasons under cheap contract is why I targeted them, Dvorak played with Marner in the OHL.
2 - This site doesn't allow the 2023-2024 ACGM, or else I would have made this known to be his pending UFA trade value.
3 - I seriously fear if the big 4 isn't traded unwillingly, than 1 of them will ask to be traded or walk. The current Leafs management have allowed many players walk; JVR, Bozak and Gardiner. Admittingly those 3 weren't superstars but...

1- you should target players that are actually worth it in a Matthews trade. these ones arnt, cheap contracts with years or not. Who Marner played with in the OHL is literally meaningless
2-then put that in the description, even so, this would only be an acceptable package in the week before July 1st of his UFA year when you are 100% sure he is walking
3-Exactly, they let those players walk. Let. They wont let Matthews walk, they will re-sign him because he wont be a near (or over) 30 past prime player, or coming off a significant injury.

Matthews and Nylander hit UFA 1 season earlier than Marner and J.T. so that'll be an interesting time for decision making. Also what else needs to be considered is if Robertson becomes goal scoring elite in the NHL like his potential promises, there is a passing of the torch opportunity right there.
